In recent years, China has achieved results in strengthening the protection of ancient books. Since the implementation of the "Chinese Ancient Books Protection Plan" in 2007, China has successively selected and published 6 batches of the "National Precious Ancient Books Directory", accumulatively including 13,026 ancient books, and named 6 batches of 203 "National Ancient Books Key Protection Units".
As one of the sixth batch of "National Ancient Books Key Protection Units", on December 28, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences held the unveiling ceremony of "National Key Protection Units of Ancient Books" and the symposium of "Inheritance and Protection of Lingnan Ancient Books". According to reports, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences is the fifth unit in Guangdong Province to be rated as a national key protection unit for ancient books. At present, a total of 342 ancient books in Guangdong Province have been selected into the National Precious Ancient Books List.

As an important part of the protection of ancient books in Guangdong Province, the "sense of existence" of the library of the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences cannot be ignored. According to Guo Yuewen, secretary of the party group of the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences, at present, the total number of ancient books collected by the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences has exceeded 130,000. In terms of quality, there is no shortage of rare and rare treasures, such as the Yuan Ming Manuscript "Tongzhi" engraved by Yuan Dade Sanshan County, the Ming Zhengde inscription "Qingfeng Ancestral Record", the Ming Jiajing inscription "WenShi", the Qing manuscript "Guangdong GongshiLu", etc., as well as a large number of rare Ming and Qing inscriptions, manuscript manuscripts and famous school inscription collections. Among them, 58 species were selected into the "Guangdong Provincial Precious Ancient Books Directory" and 4 were selected into the "National Precious Ancient Books Directory".

Pan Yongyi, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Zhongshan Library, said that in recent years, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences has overcome various difficulties such as large collections and insufficient personnel, completed the census registration of ancient books in the collection, the national and provincial ancient book directories and the declaration of key units, and made remarkable achievements in the protection of ancient books.
Specifically, in November 2011, the Guangdong Academy of Social Sciences was awarded the "Guangdong Provincial Key Protection Unit for Ancient Books"; in 2015, the "National Key Protection Unit for Ancient Books" was launched, and more than 4 million yuan was invested successively to build a special collection of ancient books that meet national standards, independently develop a digital platform for ancient books, and actively participate in the sharing and release of ancient books digital resources at the National Library of China (National Center for the Protection of Ancient Books). In July this year, Guangdong Province's "Census and Registration Catalogue of Ancient Books in the Libraries of Various Academies of Sciences" came into effect and was officially published by the National Library of China.
