Taiyuan, 18 Jan (Xinhua) -- On january 18, in the Shanxi Provincial Library, staff members were registering in detail the inscriptions, authors, damage and other information of ancient books. Liu Yanan, deputy director of the History and Documents Department of Shanxi Provincial Library, introduced that the census of ancient books in Shanxi has been basically completed, and 67,484 ancient books in 120 units have been identified 716944 volumes.

In 2007, China launched the "Chinese Ancient Books Protection Program", which is the first national ancient book protection project in China's history under the auspices of the state. In the same year, the Shanxi Provincial Library, as a century-old museum, established the Shanxi Provincial Ancient Books Protection Center to carry out the protection of ancient books such as ancient book census, directory declaration, and ancient book restoration.

Shanxi has a long history and very rich resources of ancient books, including many rare books, especially the unique characteristics of Buddhist classics in the Song, Liao, Jinyuan and Jinyuan periods, reflecting the level of engraving in ancient Shanxi and the rich history and culture of the Three Jins. Liu Yanan said: "For more than ten years, Shanxi has conducted a census of ancient books and excavated many rare ancient books. ”

Among them, the Shanxi Museum and the Gaoping City Museum have China's first engraved version of the Great Tibetan Scripture "Kai Treasure", which is currently known to only 12 pieces at home and abroad, of which 3 are found in Shanxi; the Liao carved "Khitan Collection" found in the wooden pagoda of Yingxian County connects the historical long chain of the chinese carved Dazang Sutra in successive dynasties; the Taiyuan Chongshan Temple's Tibetan Southern Song Dynasty "Moraine Sand Collection" and the Yuan Dynasty "Puning Collection" are one of the few surviving Song and Yuan editions of the Great Tibetan Scriptures in the country; the Shanxi Provincial Library's Collection of the Northern Song Yongxi Three-Year Daizhou Inscription "Buddha Says the Big Dipper Seven Star Sutra" and the pseudo-QiFuchang Eight-Year Engraving "The Eight-Year Engraving of Qifuchang" Cheng Wei Zhi theory of Yi Lantern Banknote Kewen" and so on are all orphan books at home and abroad, with extremely high edition value and literature value.

In addition, in order to promote the census of ancient books, in 2016, Shanxi carried out the volunteer service action of the census of ancient books. More than 100 volunteers went deep into the ancient book storage units in the province to carry out the work of sorting out ancient books, bibliographic registration, book shadow shooting, and ancient book protection and publicity.

Liu Yanan introduced that in the past 6 years, volunteers have found many ancient books with research value. Among them, the discovery of zero kinds of Song and Yuan editions of "Moraine Sand Collection" in the Yuncheng Salt Lake District Library, and the 114 volumes of China's last woodcut Large Tibetan Classic", "Biling Collection", confirmed by the Daixian Library, are not only the results of the census of ancient books, but also become the research materials of scholars.

Up to now, China has published six batches of the National Rare Ancient Books Directory and the "National Key Protection Units for Ancient Books". Among them, 280 ancient books in Shanxi have been selected into the National Precious Ancient Books List. (End)
