What should pregnant mothers do if they miss screening for birth defects during the pandemic?

Sanqin Metropolis Daily - Sanqin Network News (correspondent Li Chenjiao reporter Ruan Banhui) since the escalation of epidemic prevention and control in Xi'an, many pregnant mothers are worried that not being able to go out for obstetric examination will not affect the health of the fetus, especially the screening and diagnosis of birth defects and chromosomal malformations, in this regard, Professor Bai Guiqin of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University gave the majority of pregnant mothers the following friendly tips:

1.B ultra-NT screening: 11-13+ 6 weeks of pregnancy test, screening for fetal trisomy 21 and cardiac abnormalities, if missed can be remedied by Down's screening, non-invasive DNA testing, amniocentesis and fetal heart ultrasound.

2. Serological Down screening: 15-19 + 6 weeks of pregnancy test, through the blood draw of pregnant women, screening for fetal chromosome 21 and 13 abnormalities and neural tube malformations, if missed can be remedied by non-invasive DNA testing, amniocentesis and fetal ultrasonography.

3. Non-invasive DNA testing: 12-22+6 weeks of pregnancy test, through the blood draw of pregnant women, screening for abnormal number of fetal chromosomes 21, 18 and 13. Noninvasive DNA-plus testing may also be an option, which screens not only for abnormal numbers of fetal chromosomes 21, 18, and 13, but also for abnormal numbers of sex chromosomes, 20 other chromosomes, and 99 missing duplication syndromes. More than 23 weeks of gestation can still be detected and the accuracy does not decrease, because the concentration of fetal DNA in the blood of the pregnant mother increases as the gestational age increases.

4. Amniocentesis: 16-23 weeks of gestation detection, amniotic fluid extraction by maternal puncture, detection of karyotype, according to the detection needs can be additionally selected to detect fluorescence in situ hybridization, chromosome microarrays, genome copy number variation sequencing, exon sequencing and other items to diagnose chromosomal abnormalities, micro-deletion microduplication, single gene variation and other abnormalities. More than 23 weeks of gestation can still be detected and the accuracy will not decrease, according to the needs of pregnant women to detect the gestational age can be delayed, but the third trimester will affect the subsequent treatment of the test results. Therefore, there is no need to panic too much about missing certain tests, and choosing other remedies can still protect the health of the fetus. Pregnant women must relax their mood, avoid anxiety, maintain an optimistic mood, eat a healthy diet, exercise appropriately, work and rest regularly, and avoid excessive fatigue.

The epidemic will eventually pass, happiness will come as scheduled, I wish us to defeat the epidemic as soon as possible, and all pregnant mothers have a safe and smooth pregnancy!
