The Essential team is back to build the new osom OV1

IT House December 27 news, in 2015, Android operating system co-founder Andy Rubin founded a company called Essential, focusing on the development of smartphones. Essential launched the Essential Phone PH-1 in 2017, but essential announced its closure last February because essential phones were not enough to compete with other companies' flagship smartphones.

Not content with failure, the Essentia team re-founded OSOM, the team that helped give birth to Essential Phone PH-1, warmed up its first smartphone product, OSOM OV1, which focuses on privacy.

The OSOM OV1 is not a direct successor to the Essential PH-1, but a spiritual successor, retaining a rear fingerprint sensor and dual camera setup.

According to Jason Keats, the founder of OSOM products, the name osom OV1 will also be reminiscent of Essential PH-1, and its similarities extend to the software, which will provide a near-native Android experience and will also have a deep focus on privacy issues.

It House understands that Keats, lamenting the collapse of Essential, said the problem was the lack of clear direction. As a result, the company's products will focus on three areas: privacy, simplicity and choice. To that end, OSOM said it was working on three new pieces of software, but hadn't shared the specifics yet. However, the company said that the OSOM OV1 phone's privacy protection performance is "100 times more powerful" than that currently on Android.

At present, only the OSOM OV1 is equipped with a Qualcomm chip, and Jason Keats said that the machine will be a "flagship Android phone that people who like Android want to buy." According to Keats, the aircraft could be launched as early as MWC in 2022, depending on testing. Development for this phone is nearing completion, and special attention will be paid to the camera experience to avoid the same problems as the Essential Phone.
