The handover ceremony of lunar samples stored in the chang'e-5 backup storage lunar samples was held in Xiang

The reporter learned from the China National Space Administration that on December 25, the handover ceremony of Chang'e-5 backup storage samples was held in Shaoshan City, Hunan Province, and the lunar sample backup storage Shaoshan base of the lunar exploration project was officially opened. Zhang Kejian, director of the China National Space Administration, and Mao Weiming, deputy secretary of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and governor of Hunan Province, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Li Dianxun, member of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and executive vice governor, presided over the ceremony. Wu Yanhua, deputy director of the China National Space Administration, and Zhang Yingchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Xiangtan Municipal Party Committee, attended the ceremony.

After the ceremony began, 24 elementary school students recited the poem "Nine Days to Catch the Moon as You Wish". Subsequently, the China National Space Administration issued a certificate of backup of the Lunar Samples of Chang'e-5 to Hunan University and Shaoshan City, respectively, and some lunar samples were officially entered into Shaoshan Mountain.

Zhang Kejian said that the first lunar sample collected by China is the precious result of tens of thousands of scientific and technological workers who have worked hard for decades to build a space power and realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The backup of the lunar samples stored in Shaoshan not only deeply remembers Chairman Mao's great achievements for the Chinese nation and the people of the world, but also comforts Chairman Mao's long-cherished wish of "being able to go to the moon in nine days", but also fully demonstrates the innovative achievements made by China's aerospace industry in the new era, which is conducive to giving play to the advantages of resources in red tourism holy places, building a platform for popularizing aerospace knowledge and carrying forward the spirit of aerospace, and is of great significance to further stimulating patriotic enthusiasm and embarking on a new journey of the second centenary goal. It is hoped that shaoshan base will give full play to the spillover effect of lunar sample storage, attract more scientific research institutes, high-tech enterprises, and colleges and universities to join the lunar and planetary exploration project, further promote the development of the aerospace industry, gather more innovative and entrepreneurial talents, and help the rapid development of Hunan's innovative technology industry.

Mao Weiming paid tribute to the scientific and technological workers who participated in the various missions of the lunar exploration project and thanked the China National Space Administration for its long-term concern and support for Hunan. He said that the China National Space Administration has made Shaoshan the only backup and storage base for lunar samples in the country, which is a deep friendship for Chairman Mao's hometown. We will cherish the honor, shoulder the responsibility, manage and operate the base well, and take this as an opportunity to seize the opportunity of aerospace development, strengthen the leadership of scientific and technological innovation, vigorously carry forward the spirit of lunar exploration, participate in major scientific research tasks in aerospace, accelerate the promotion of the pilot reform of the global low-altitude airspace management and the Beidou low-altitude comprehensive application demonstration, strengthen and expand the aerospace industry, and strive to occupy a place in the construction of a space power. It is hoped that the China National Space Administration will continue to support Hunan, guide the relevant units of our province to participate in the construction of major national projects, and contribute more hunan strength to the high-quality development of aerospace industry.

Setting up a sample backup storage base is an international practice, which can improve the long-term safe storage capacity of lunar samples and avoid the impact of extreme conditions such as natural disasters on sample safety. In 2014, the Bureau of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense and the Ministry of Finance approved the construction of the country's only lunar sample backup storage base in Swan Mountain, Shaoshan City; in July 2021, the project was completed and passed the technical assessment of storage conditions, and in November, it passed the project completion acceptance and approval, and had the conditions for backup and storage of lunar samples.

At present, the fourth phase of the lunar exploration project and the planetary exploration project have been fully launched. In addition to issuing the "Measures for the Management of Lunar Samples" and the "Statutes of the Expert Committee on Lunar Samples", the China National Space Administration will continue to organize the management of lunar samples, coordinate and promote relevant scientific research, and uphold the concept of mutually beneficial cooperation, actively promote cooperation with international counterparts in the field of scientific research, promote the majority of Chinese and foreign scientists to conduct in-depth research on lunar samples, strive to obtain more scientific results, and contribute to the enhancement of human cognition.
