Recently, the 2021 Zhejiang Archaeological Important Discoveries Selection was held in Hangzhou, and seven projects of Hangzhou Cultural Relics and Archaeological Research were selected as the ultimate PK of this archaeological Oscar. Today (December 26) at noon, the results are freshly baked, Yuhang bottle kiln North Village ruins, Yuhang Jingshan small ancient city ruins, Fuyang Xindeng ancient city sites, Yuhang jumping head site was elected as the 2021 Zhejiang archaeological important discoveries.

Zhujiaqiao Ruins Area II

The Zhujiaqiao site is located in Zhujiaqiao Village, Shushan Subdistrict, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, with Xianghu Lake and Xishan Mountain Range in the west and nanmen River waters in the east and south.

Judging from the excavations, the main body of the site is the Artificial Pile Of Soil Platform of the Liangzhu Period, which involves an area of more than 3,000 square meters, which is the largest known area of the Liangzhu Period Artificial Pile Soil Platform south of the Qiantang River. Such a large area and scale shows that there were once a certain number of Liangzhu people gathered and lived here.

The discovery fills a gap in the area south of the Qiantang River for this type of Liangzhu period site. The rich historical period relics and a large number of relics in the site are also of great significance for understanding and studying the social life and settlement changes of people in various historical periods in the region.

Jump head ruins

The site of Jump head is located 400 meters northeast of Jump Head Village, Zhongtai Street, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City, at the junction of mountain hilly area and plain area.

The site is divided into ten layers, covering the Spring and Autumn Period, Western Zhou, Late Shang, Maqiao Culture, Guangfulin Culture and Liangzhu Culture. Among them, the late Shang is a period with the clearest structure of the site settlement, a good preservation of the remains, and the richest excavated relics, and a number of well-preserved stone fans, bronzes and suspected copper ingots, gravel, charcoal and other relics directly related to cast copper have been unearthed.

During the late Shang period, when bronze culture was highly prosperous, archaeological work gave way to the discovery of clearer bronze settlement sites in Hangzhou in the lower Yangtze River region for the first time. This is of great significance for exploring the transition from the end of the Neolithic period to the early Bronze Age in the Taihu Lake area, understanding the cultural connotation of Bronze Age archaeology, settlement and social organization forms, civilization evolution patterns, the origin and development of early countries, and the interaction and exchange between the lower Reaches of the Yangtze River and other regions such as the Central Plains.

Ancient tombs on Yuhang Jingshan

The ancient tomb group is located in Xishan Village, Jingshan Town, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, and a total of 76 tombs in various periods were found and cleaned up during this excavation. Among them, the Eastern Han Dynasty brick chamber tomb M28 found is the most grand, and the unique structure of the front hall, double back room and double tomb passage is the largest and most complex Eastern Han Brick Chamber tomb found in Hangzhou and even Zhejiang so far; the copper belt hook excavated by M61, holding a knife in the right hand and a shield in the left hand, is like the majesty and nobility of the god of war.

The ancient tombs in this place are numerous and rich in types, dating from the late Warring States period to modern times, and there is no missing ring in the middle, which is an important material for studying the staging and type evolution of tombs in Hangzhou; not only that, the discovered "Tai Nian Jia Wu Zhen Guan Eight Years" chronicle bricks together with other surrounding tombs constitute the Tang Dynasty family tomb group, and are also a rare chronological data for Tang Dynasty tombs in Zhejiang.

Ruins of Jingci Temple

Jingci Temple is located under the Huiri Peak in Nanping Mountain, which is an important part of the "Nanping Evening Bell" of the "Ten Views of the West Lake" of the national key cultural relics protection unit, and also an important heritage component of the cultural landscape of Hangzhou's West Lake.

In the archaeological excavations in 2021, a group of large architectural remains from the fifth dynasty to the Song Dynasty were found, with a grand scale, clear structure and good preservation. The remnants of the reorganization are mainly composed of octagonal rammed earth platforms, patios, corridors, steps, scattered water, drainage ditches, etc.

This excavation provides detailed archaeological data for understanding the characteristics, construction methods, scale and shape of the main buildings of Jingci Temple in different periods, and has important historical significance and academic value for the study of ancient temple architecture and the Five Mountains and Ten Temples.

Ruins of Xindeng Ancient City in Fuyang

Xindeng Ancient City is located in Xindeng Town, Fuyang District, Hangzhou. After archaeological excavations, the remains of the Tang, Song and Ming and Qing dynasties found in Xindeng Ancient City have a clear structure, obvious superimposed relationship, and good preservation. This also shows that since the Tang Dynasty, the geographical location of the ancient city has hardly changed much.

Lin'an Tianmu Kiln Site - Xie Jia No. 1 Kiln Site

The Tianmu Kiln Site Group is located in Yuqian Town and Tianmushan Town, Lin'an District, Hangzhou, and is one of the important porcelain kiln sites of the Song and Yuan dynasties in western Zhejiang. At present, more than 30 sites have been found, mainly distributed in the north bank of Dongguan Creek and the south bank of Fengling Creek in the upper reaches of Tianmu Creek, with a total area of about 6 square kilometers.
