According to Xinhua News Agency, on the morning of December 25, the Chang'e-5 backup storage of lunar samples was handed over in Shaoshan City, Hunan Province, and the only lunar sample backup and storage base in the country built in Swan Mountain, Shaoshan City, was officially "settled". It is understood that the setting of a sample backup storage base can improve the long-term safe storage capacity of lunar samples and avoid the impact of extreme situations such as natural disasters on sample safety. In November 2021, the lunar sample backup storage Shaoshan base of the lunar exploration project passed the project completion acceptance and approval, and has the conditions for lunar sample backup storage.
