Zhong Yi has had great ambitions since he was a child, and his idols are Yue Fei and Wen Tianxiang. Later, Zhong Yi joined the Gui Army, and Huang Shaohu felt that Zhong Yi was a promising young man, so he directly appointed him as a company commander. Many people were dissatisfied with this, but soon Zhong Yi made a great contribution during the crusade against the Guangxi warlord Lu Rongting, and everyone was convinced, and Zhong Yi was also promoted to battalion commander.
During the Northern Expedition, Zhong Yi's position was colonel. After the outbreak of the All-out War of Resistance, Zhong Yi left a suicide note to his family before the expedition, and was ready to be martyred. In the Battle of Suizao, Zhong Yi, then the commander of the 173rd Division, made a great contribution. In the end, Zhong Yi was left with only one platoon of troops left, and he left a bullet in his pistol, ready to commit suicide and martyrdom at any time.
Before the position was lost, Zhong Yi buried the confidential information around him. The Japanese rushed up to catch the live, Zhong Yi pointed the muzzle of the gun at himself, and after a gunshot, Zhong Yi was martyred at the age of 39.
After the news of Zhong Yi's martyrdom came back, the Eighth Route Army and people from all walks of life in Yan'an spontaneously held a memorial service for him, which was said to be attended by more than 1,000 people. When his body was transported to Guilin, Guangxi, Mr. Zhu, together with Tan Zheng and Xiao Jinguang, attended a memorial meeting organized by the local government to express his respect for this famous anti-Japanese general.
It is worth mentioning that 7 days after the martyrdom of General Zhong Yi, zhang Zizhong, a famous anti-Japanese general, was also martyred on the battlefield at the age of 49. The two generals left together, and they should not feel lonely.
