According to the Shaanxi Provincial Health Commission, as of December 23, the current round of epidemic in Xi'an has been linked to 7 provinces and cities in Shaanxi, Guangdong, Beijing, Henan and Shanxi. Since December 9, Shaanxi Province has reported a cumulative total of 264 locally confirmed cases, including 255 in Xi'an. The epidemic in Xi'an is currently in the outbreak period, there has been community transmission, and the situation of prevention and control is complex and severe.
According to a press conference in Xi'an on December 23, a total of 844 isolation and control sites have been set up in Xi'an, providing more than 100,000 beds, nearly 110,000. There is also a square cabin hospital in Gaoling District of Xi'an, which can accept thousands of confirmed patients at any time and can fully meet the needs.
The Shaanxi Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention sequenced the whole genome of 36 indigenous case specimens, all of which were Delta variants, all of which were highly homologous to the imported cases found in passengers on Pakistan's inbound flight PK854 (Islamabad-Xi'an) on December 4. According to relevant regulations, since December 23, 2021, Xi'an has added 31 new medium-risk areas. Up to now, Xi'an has a total of 1 high-risk area and 71 medium-risk areas, except for the high and medium-risk areas that have been announced, other areas in the city are still low-risk areas.
On the afternoon of December 22, a press conference on the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic in Xi'an announced that Xi'an will implement the management of epidemic prevention and control, advocating that all citizens "do not leave the city unless necessary", and implement closed management and other measures in the city's communities (villages) and units. At noon on December 23, the Western Airport Group said that all domestic flights at Xi'an Xianyang International Airport had been cancelled.
