The Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology released new archaeological discoveries on the 22nd, and local archaeologists found in Huozhou City, Shanxi Province, the Thousand Buddha Cliff Statue and The Pre-Cave Site, which was excavated in the Gaowu period of the Tang Dynasty, providing important historical materials for studying the evolution of the statue style and type of the transition from the Sheng Tang Dynasty to the middle and late period.

The Thousand Buddha Cliff Statue and Cave Front Site are located on the cliffs on the east bank of the Fenhe River 7 kilometers southwest of Huozhou City, and the project is jointly excavated by the Shanxi Provincial Archaeological Research Institute and Peking University, which is divided into two parts: the cave site and the cliff statue.

A total of 20 excavations are laid out at the site in front of the cave, and the carvings and chisels of the statue niches are very concentrated, with a total of more than 70 niches and about 300 statues in the preliminary statistics. Above the cliff is a 6-meter-tall seated Buddha carved from the "Gaowu Period". The 5 eleven-sided Guanyin found this time, alias Daguang Puzhao Guanyin, the secret number Ci Shu Jingang, from the current discovery, the eleven-sided Guanyin image appeared in China in a large number of Tang Dynasty, and gradually became popular after the Wu Zetian period.

A total of nearly 20 memorials were found this time, and after reading, it was determined that the contents of the memorizations included several major categories such as chronicles, place names, personal names, and official names. Among them, the chronology is the fifth year of the New Century, the third year of Tianbao, the second year of Changqing, etc.; the place names are Jinyang County, Anbian County, Jinzhou, Taiyuan, etc.; the official names are county lieutenant, Zhongshu Sheren, Du Zhi, judge, escort, deputy general, etc.

According to archaeologists, the QianfoYa Statue and Cave Pre-Cave Site in Huozhou City were first chiseled in the Gaowu period of the Tang Dynasty, and are an important medium-sized statue group of the Tang Dynasty in Shanxi, which not only has the Tang Dynasty statue style of the Taiyuan Tianlongshan Grottoes, but also the influence of the Tang Dynasty statue style of the Luoyang Longmen Grottoes and the Guanzhong Region, providing important materials for the study of the evolution of the statue style and type of the transition from the Sheng Tang Dynasty to the middle and late periods.
