On December 21, Chen Niannian, an expert on nuclear materials and nuclear fuel and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, died of illness in Tianjin.
Chen Niannian was born in Shanghai in 1941, originally from Wuxing County, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Department of Engineering Physics of Tsinghua University in 1964. He once served as a researcher of the Institute of Nuclear Industry Physical and Chemical Engineering of CNNC, a director of the Chinese Nuclear Society, and a director and researcher of the Science and Technology Committee of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Engineering of the Nuclear Industry. In 2005, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
After graduating from university, Chen Niannian has been engaged in the research of special equipment for nuclear fuel cycle and related processes. He presided over the design and construction of an experimental device that can simulate the comprehensive parameters of the special equipment of the nuclear plant, saving a large number of core components for the country; participating in and presiding over the research of many advanced related processes; presiding over the successful development of China's first generation of advanced special equipment with independent intellectual property rights. and 3 first prizes for national defense science and technology (or ministerial scientific and technological progress).
Chen Niannian has focused on scientific research all his life and often educates future generations: "To do scientific research work, we must first strengthen confidence.
