To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Shelby launched again at the end of 2021, based on the GT500 KR, a heavily modified Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. KR means "King of the Road", and in order to live up to such a resounding name, the original factory increased the power to 900 horsepower in one fell swoop, and strengthened the air power package and chassis suspension, making it a veritable king of the road.
It's called a relaunch because the first GT500KR was launched by Shelby in 1968 and features a 428-cubic-inch (about 7.0-liter) Cobra Jet Cobra V8 engine with a maximum horsepower of about 400 horses. At that time, Shelby only built 1,570 vehicles, which can be said to be a fairly rare "god car"; later, the original factory in 2008 for the first time in the form of a special car, and limited to 1,712 units, this generation of GT500KR using the then Shelby GT500 5.4-liter supercharged engine, and has a maximum horsepower of 540 horses.
Today, the GT500KR, which coincides with the Shelby brand's 60th birthday, is the most powerful of all previous models. The engine body was still in a 5.2-litre V8 supercharged configuration, but the original was replaced with a high-flow supercharged medium air cooling, an open intake system, and Borla's mid-tail exhaust, plus a drive shaft reinforcement, which brought its maximum horsepower to the 900 hp spectrum. In terms of chassis suspension, the original factory replaced the high and low adjustable springs, front and rear anti-roll bars to improve the dynamic performance of the vehicle.
According to the original factory information, the latest GT500KR will sell 60 units per year from 2020 to 2022, and provide another 45 units to overseas markets, with a total limited edition of 225 units.
