The story of Sima Guang smashing the cylinder should be called Sima Guang smashing weng, which can be seen in the original text of this story, Sima Guang and several children playing together, one of the children was very naughty to climb on the cylinder, and as a result, he accidentally fell into the big urn.

There was water in the big urn, and seeing that the child was about to drown, the other children were scared away when they saw it, but Sima Guang picked up a stone and smashed the big vat, and the water leaked out at once, and the child in the big urn was saved. This has become a good story, passed down through the ages.
At this time, Sima Guang was only 7 years old, his bravery and wit were beyond ordinary people, in order to thank this witty and brave little hero, the family of the rescued children built a pavilion called the Thanksgiving Pavilion. It can be seen that the family of the rescued child is not ordinary, it is indeed not ordinary, the child's family is the local noble family surname Shangguan, the child's name is Shangguan Shangguang.
Sima Guang smashed it was obviously a weng, and as a result, the story became a tank in the process of circulation. In fact, during the Northern Song Dynasty, it was not possible to burn such a large cylinder, which could not be done until the Ming Dynasty.
But this has changed with the story, it is estimated that this weng is not very good-looking, and the pronunciation is relatively dull. This story is a fast-paced story, and it is a little too simple to use artifacts like Weng, and a little too dull to use the word Weng. Maybe people in later generations think it is better to use a cylinder, so there is such a change.
Looking at this rescued Shangguan Shangguang, this person did not enter the main history, but was recorded in the family tree.
Sima Guang later paid homage to the Chancellor of the Northern Song Dynasty, and also compiled a great work of historiography, the Zizhi Tongjian. There is a saying in the Buddhist family called "Saving a person's life, winning the seven-level floating slaughter." The Buddha believed that the merit of saving a person's life was very great, better than building a seven-story stupa.
Sima Guang's brave action when he was a child saved the lives of children, which accumulated a lot of merit, so his fate also changed.
There were many such stories in ancient times, and we will tell one of them today. The Tang Dynasty prime minister Pei Du was poor and poor, a private school gentleman, once looked for a monk - a line of Zen masters to see, the monk looked at Pei Du for a long time, and then said, you are born with a lowly image, and the entrance of the vertical tattoo, not only can not get the name of the merit will also starve to death.
Pei Du was extremely depressed when he heard this, and he was in no mood to teach. One day, Pei Du wandered to Xiangshan Temple, only to see a woman praying in front of the Buddha, then got up and left. Pei Du saw that there was a bag on the offering table, so he opened it and looked at it, it was all valuable property, Pei Du thought that it must be lost by this woman, so he waited in the temple.
As a result, the woman actually came back, but cried loudly when she saw that the baggage was gone. Pei Du asked the reason, it turned out that the woman's father was seriously ill, and in order to cure the disease, the woman went to a relative's house to borrow these treasures to prepare a pawn. Now this burden is lost, so I cry. Pei Du took out this burden, and this woman looked like she had been reborn, and she was very grateful to Pei Du.
Leaving the Xiangshan Temple, Pei Du met a group of Zen masters, and the Zen master pulled Pei Du in front of his eyes and said that your appearance has changed, not only will you not starve to death, but also rich and noble. Your eyes are no longer floating, the longitudinal stripe of the entrance has become a jade belt pattern, you must have done a great good deed, Pei Du said this matter. A line of Zen masters frequently nodded, and Pei Du was admitted to the jinshi that year, and became the prime minister ten years later.
Good is rewarded with good, evil is rewarded with evil, not by not being repaid, the time has not yet come, and when the time comes, all must be repaid.
