Yuan Shikai was born on September 16, 1859, and he was born at a time when the fortunes of the Yuan family were booming. At that time, there were as many as 13 sons of the Yuan family who were officials in the imperial court, and they were the most famous and prestigious family in Xiangcheng, Henan. Yuan Shikai's great-grandfather, Yuan Yaodong, was a scholar who married the daughter of The Rich Man of Huaining, Guo Ruju. Unfortunately, Yuan Yaodong died of tuberculosis in his 40s.

Although Guo was widowed in middle age, he had a good son: the eldest son Yuan Shusan (that is, Yuan Shikai's grandfather), who had been a teacher for Chen Liu County; the second son Yuan Jia, who was three high-powered and powerful ministers, served as a minister of Chincha, and the emperor rewarded him with a yellow coat; the third son, Yuan Fengsan, was a teacher in Yuzhou; and the fourth son, Yuan Zhongshan, although not an official, was also a local powerful figure. But unfortunately, Yuan Shikai's grandfather and brothers all died young, and the most accomplished Yuan Jiasan only lived for 57 years.

Yuan Baozhong was Yuan Shikai's biological father, who had six sons and three daughters, of whom yuan Shichang (who died prematurely) and Yuan Shidun were originally born. After the death of the original disease, Yuan Baozhong married Liu Shixian and had four sons, Yuan Shilian, Yuan Shikai, Yuan Shifu, and Yuan Shitong.

Since his younger brother Yuan Baoqing was nearly 40 years old and childless, according to local customs, Yuan Baozhong passed on the 5-year-old Yuan Shikai to Yuan Baoqing, who was an official in other places, as a son. Since then, Yuan Shikai has lived with Yuan Baoqing and followed his uncle away from home. In June 1873, Yuan Baoqing died of illness in Nanjing at the age of 48, and in November of the following year, his biological father Yuan Baozhong also died of illness in his hometown of Yuan Zhai at the age of 51.
When Yuan Shikai was 15 years old, yuan baoheng(yuan baoheng' son), his cousin yuan baoheng (yuan jiasan's son) who was an official in the capital, returned to his hometown and found a different Yuan shikai among more than 10 nephews of the Yuan family. Yuan Baoheng deliberately cultivated Yuan Shikai and brought him to the capital to study, and under the careful cultivation of Yuan Baoheng and Yuan Baoling's brothers, Yuan Shikai was just beginning to emerge.

In 1878, Yuan Baoheng, who was then a waiter in the Punishment Department, died of illness in Kaifeng, Henan, at the age of 52; in 1889, Yuan Baoling, Li Hongzhang's right-hand man, also died of overwork in Lushun at the age of 48. The descendants of the Yuan family witnessed the death of the elders one by one, and finally had a surprising discovery: such a huge family as the Yuan family, no man had lived past the age of 57!
In order to solve the mystery of the short life of the Yuan man, the Yuan family did not bother with it. When Yuan Shikai was more than 10 years old, the family had invited high-ranking people to guide the mystery, and the other party proposed a cracking solution: the Yuan family lived in separate rooms and ended the living environment of four generations of the same church.

However, after living in separate rooms, the phenomenon of "Gao Lu short life" of the Yuan family male Ding still exists, which has become a long-term shadow in Yuan Shikai's heart after the trace. It is said that after Yuan Shikai became the president, he asked a master to do a calculation, and the other party bluntly said that Yuan Shikai's life expectancy would not exceed 58 years. Yuan Shikai died in June 1916 at the age of 58, which proved completely correct.
With the death of Yuan Shikai, the Yuan family gradually withdrew from the stage of history. First of all, let's talk about Yuan Kewen, the second son of Yuan Shikai, who is called the "Fourth Prince of the Republic of China" together with Zhang Boju, Zhang Xueliang, and Pu Dong. This talent is outstanding, affectionate, proficient in eating, drinking, prostituting, and gambling. Yuan Kewen did not escape the curse of the yuan family man's short life, and died of illness in Tianjin in 1931 at the age of 42.
The only person in the fifth generation of the Yuan family to break the strange situation was Yuan Keding, the eldest son of Yuan Shikai, who studied in Germany when he was young and was fluent in German and English, and although he was also a gentleman, Yuan Keding lived until the age of 77 until his death in 1955.
