At the Pirao site near Daocheng County, Sichuan, an archaeological team from the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology discovered a Paleolithic site with an area of one million square meters (no later than 130,000 years ago). As of September this year, nearly 10,000 stone artifacts have been unearthed. This excavation revealed the continuous stratigraphic accumulation and cultural strata from the late Pleistocene to the Late Pleistocene (no later than 130,000 years ago) in the erosion area of the eastern foothills of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and unearthed more than 6,000 stone products and fire relics in seven cultural layers, completely preserved and systematically demonstrated the Paleolithic cultural development process of "gravel stone tool combination - Ashley technology system - stone shard stone tool system", and established for the first time a coherent and iconic Paleolithic specific period of culture sequence in Sichuan and southwest China. References and yardsticks for comparative studies have been established for other sites and related materials in the region.
