Recently, IDC released the third quarter of 2021 global PC display shipments catch-up report. The report shows that PC display shipments in the first half of 2021 increased by 4.6% year-on-year to 143 million units, the highest level since 2012. However, after five consecutive quarters of year-on-year increases in shipments, global PC display shipments in Q3 2021 fell by about 7.4% year-on-year to about 34.8 million units.
From 2020 onwards, the work model caused by the epidemic has changed, and the rapidly increasing demand for home work, remote work, and online learning has forced many enterprises and consumers to consider upgrading their PCs and related peripherals. As a result, markets such as PCs have ushered in rare development opportunities, and PC monitors are also one of them. Of course, the rapid growth of PC display shipments is not only work and study, but also the demand for game entertainment.
However, with the completion of user upgrades, demand in some markets has slowed down, and shipments have calmed down. According to IDC research, there have been significant contractions in North America, Western Europe and other markets. In addition, the challenges from the supply chain and logistics still bring some troubles to the display market.
Data released by IDC shows that commercial display shipments fell by about 2% year-on-year. In contrast, the decline in the consumer market is more pronounced, more than 12%,
In terms of brands, the top five manufacturers are Dell, Lenovo, TPV, HP and Samsung. Among them, the top two manufacturers still maintained an increase in shipments, and the remaining three had a decline of more than 10%.
For the future development of the PC display market, IDC expects shipments to slow down for the rest of this year, and decline by 2% in 2022 or compared to 2021, and gradually stabilize in the following years.
Jay Chou, research manager for global quarterly PC monitor tracking at IDC, said: "The market is expected to peak by the end of 2021, with shipments reaching their highest level since 2012. In the next few years, although the market tends to be calm, there are still opportunities. Especially driven by the commercial market. In addition, as hybrid office and learning become the new normal, users' hardware updates will be more frequent and will also provide some opportunities for manufacturers.
