Huawei won the bid for China Telecom's fixed network, but it is not the biggest winner

According to the bidding results announced by China Telecom, China Telecom PON equipment (2021) centralized procurement project, ZTE, Huawei, Fiberhome shortlisted, which means that these three equipment manufacturers have won an important share of China Telecom fixed network equipment, so what is the situation of Huawei?

Previously, in May this year, China Telecom launched a 2021 PON equipment collection bidding, more than 2 million lines, both 10G EPON equipment and 10G PON equipment.

The so-called PON, is a broadband technology or architecture, which originated in the 1990s. PON equipment is ONU, put into the user's home is fiber-to-the-home (FTTH), put in the building is light to the floor (FTTB) and so on.

Nowadays, China's home broadband is more than 100M broadband, so every broadband user must install PON equipment at home, so China Telecom and China Unicom must launch large-scale collection and procurement every year.

Huawei, ZTE and Fiberhome have always been the main suppliers of broadband equipment for China Telecom and China Unicom fixed-line networks. The tender is divided into three bidding sections, of which there is a bid section, Huawei first; there is a bid section, Huawei second; there is a bid section Huawei did not win the bid.

This result is not particularly ideal. According to the global market share report of fixed-line broadband access products released by OVUM, a world-renowned consulting organization, as of the third quarter of 2019, Huawei's fixed-line broadband equipment such as ONT and ONU continued to rank first in the world with a market share of 35%, leading the world for 7 consecutive years.

However, in the bidding for China Telecom fixed-line broadband PON equipment, Huawei does not seem to have won the first place as a whole.
