"The Long March of a Lifetime" is a documentary literary work, first published in the 3rd issue of Contemporary Magazine in 2021 and published by Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House in July 2021, which is a key support work for the China Writers Association and a literary creation work with the theme of "One Hundred Years of Glory - Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China" of the Hunan Writers Association.
With full of passion, sincere feelings, rich historical facts, vivid details, and simple language, the book tells the touching story of Yu Jie, former vice minister of commerce, who returned to his hometown of Pingjiang Mountainous Area to help the poor and benefit the people, and restores the glorious life of a Communist Party member who is loyal to the party and wholeheartedly serves the people. The protagonist, Yu Jie, participated in the revolution in his early years and made outstanding contributions to the party's cause. In the early 1970s, he voluntarily gave up his official position as a ministerial-level leader and returned to his hometown to serve the people, and then led the people in his hometown to improve their living environment and living conditions, build power stations, build roads, and plant trees. Yu Jie not only participated in the 25,000-mile Long March in his early years, but also struggled the Long March road all his life and carried the weight forward.

The author of this book, Peng Dongming, is a native of Pingjiang, Hunan Province, a fellow villager with Yu Jie, a member of the Chinese Writers Association, and is currently the vice chairman of the Hunan Writers Association. He has an in-depth understanding of Yu Jie's deeds, and has interviewed Yu Jie many times in the 1980s, and has a large amount of first-hand information. In the process of creation, under the premise of abiding by the principle of truth and objectivity, the author breaks through the boundaries of documentary literary works, boldly uses the expression techniques of other literary disciplines such as novels, essays, and dramas, and artistically tells the touching deeds of the protagonist. The work uses fragmentary stories to coherently form the protagonist's plump and three-dimensional life; a large number of details are used to increase the authenticity and realism of things; each story has fierce contradictions and conflicts, with strong appeal and readability; every character can see a distinct personality; the language of the work is simple and kind, and it does not lose its literary style. This innovative writing has changed people's inherent perceptions of the main theme of the work, so that the content and form of the red theme are perfectly combined.
Yan Jingming, vice chairman of the China Writers Association, pointed out on the same day that "The Long March of a Lifetime" is a work implemented by the China Writers Association to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. The seminar on the works of "The Long March of a Lifetime" is not only an affirmation and encouragement of Peng Dongming's creation, but also a summary of the phased achievements of the theme practice of "going deep into life and taking root in the people".

The old Red Army that returned to his hometown was not only Yu Jie, but what was very different was that Yu Jie was an army leader, very professional, and could be a good adviser and make contributions, but he believed that when he was a consultant, he could also go to the countryside, understand the actual situation at the bottom, and then reflect the actual problems existing in the rural areas to the central authorities, so as to facilitate the adjustment of policies. This is a great feature of this character, not the general intention not to forget the original intention to return to his hometown, he has a level, going to the countryside and even still has policy considerations, and indeed feels that going to the countryside can also do some things. There has never been a second such image of an old revolutionary cadre in China, and it should be said that it is also a great feature. Hu Ping believes that "Peng Dongming is a novelist who can write documentary literature into a novel-style work." Peng Dongming said that he knew Yu Jie more than 30 years ago, chatted for three days and three nights in his adobe house, and all the stories in "The Long March of a Lifetime" came from Yu Jie's own personal narration, and some came from local cadres and ordinary people in mountainous areas. After more than 30 years of interviews, he understood a noble, pure communist who was always loyal to the people and the party, and who had spent his whole life in the shadow of the sword and the shadow of the sword and the construction of the motherland. Yu Jie's story is the most beautiful Chinese story, he is credible, lovely and respectable, this is the story of a person's life and the lives of thousands of people.
