Geely Automobile and Materialise Marius, 3D printing software to empower innovative research and development

Antarctic Bear learned that at the end of 2021, the Materialise Marius team delivered the first set of Magics and e-stage software at the Geely R&D Center in The Hangzhou Bay New Area of Ningbo. The software application engineers of Materialise Marius conducted software training and exchanges with the engineers of the Geely 3D Printing Center, and discussed many topics raised by Geely engineers on how to apply 3D printing to automotive design more efficiently.

Over the past decade, additive manufacturing (AM) has had a transformative impact, especially in industries such as automotive R&D and aerospace, where manufacturing is subject to stringent requirements such as high quality and reliability. In contrast, traditional automotive development and design often fail to quickly achieve physical production of the first prototype. However, through additive manufacturing, the model designed by the designer only needs to be obtained at a very low cost through the printer in a few hours or tens of hours, and after the physical model is completed, if there is a problem, it can be modified immediately and continue 3D printing verification. This approach greatly speeds up the iteration cycle of automotive design updates.

We hope that through our collaboration with Materialise Marius, we can fully exploit the potential of additive manufacturing, from lightweight design to complex structural design." Whether it is the design and manufacture of new parts, or the disruptive optimization of traditional manufacturing, the development of 3D printing has brought a new dawn to the automotive manufacturing industry.
