After the baptism of the new cultural movement, some women who grew up in the city were no longer satisfied with the traditional women who worked as needleworkers and husbands and godsons, and they hoped that they could enjoy the same rights as men, take to the streets, work in factories, and hope that they could become female warriors and fight for the establishment of a new China.
In Yan'an in 1936, for those new young people who wanted to break through the shackles of family and society, it was like Mecca for Islamists, who longed to come to this revolutionary holy place, meet Chairman Mao and the legendary heroes of the War of Resistance, and become part of the revolutionary ranks.
According to statistics, there were more than 40,000 intellectuals who came to Yan'an after the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, half of whom were women with a high school education or above, accounting for more than 19%. These women look at it today, they are all highly educated women who stand in the trend of the times and dare to love and hate.
But an interesting phenomenon is that most of these young female students are married to cadres who are much older than them. The reason for this phenomenon is mainly due to the following reasons.
First, out of the worship of heroes. Although these cadres are much older than these female students, many of them received a good education before joining the revolution, and some even stayed in school. They have experienced the Long March, experienced the ups and downs of the revolution, and even gone to the battlefield to kill the enemy, and for these female students, they are like living idols and heroes.
Second, the "soft regulations" on marriage at that time. Although there is no specific record of the "258 regiment" or the "358 regiment" in the marriage regulations of the Yan'an period, it is likely that the consensus formed on the issue of marriage at that time was that they must reach a certain age, position, party age and military age before they can get married.
3. Obey organizational arrangements. Among these marriages, there are also some "political marriages", usually marriages that are introduced by the organization and completed after the parties intend to be unified. For example, chen Yun met Yu Luhua in November 1937 because he was ill and needed to be taken care of, and the two of them established a husband and wife relationship after a temporary contact, and spent their lives together.
Fourth, Yan'an during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a spiritual fertile ground for these female students, but it was very lacking in materials. Compared with the ordinary masses, the material conditions possessed by cadres will be better, which is probably also a factor for female students to consider when marrying cadres.
