Apple plans to set up a wireless chip development team Chip stocks fell together 丨 a hot stock

Apple is reportedly hiring engineers for a new office in Southern California's Irvine area to develop self-developed wireless chips that will eventually replace chips made by suppliers Broadcom and Scarlett. According to recent job postings, Apple is looking for employees with experience in modem chips and wireless semiconductors.

The move is part of Apple's strategy to expand its office footprint and help the company move into engineering while attracting employees who want to work outside of their Silicon Valley headquarters. This approach can also prompt Apple to go further on the road of independent research and development of components.

After the news came out, chip stocks fell. As of the close of U.S. stocks on December 16, Scarlett was down more than 8 percent; Broadcom was down 3 percent; and Nvidia was down 6.8 percent.

In recent years, Apple has been working to reduce its reliance on chip suppliers. In November this year, it was reported that Apple plans to use TSMC's 4nm process to produce its self-developed iPhone 5G baseband chip. The news threatened Qualcomm, which had almost monopolized Apple's baseband chip business.
