Apple expands the scale of wireless chip development Broadcom and Qualcomm stock prices fell sharply

Webmaster's House (ChinaZ.com) December 17 News: According to Bloomberg on Thursday, Apple is planning to hire six engineers to develop wireless chips in Irvine, California. Baseband manufacturers such as Broadcom and Skyworks have offices in the region.

Recent job postings suggest that Apple is specifically looking for people with experience in wireless semiconductors and baseband chips. However, the expansion of the team in Irvine is said to be in its early stages, and the company plans to gradually expand its scale.

Engineers in the new office will work on radio, RF circuits, and wireless systems-on-chip. In addition, they will reportedly work on semiconductors for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity. These are chips that Apple currently purchases from Broadcom, Skyworks and Qualcomm.

In addition to Broadcom and Skyworks, Irvine is also home to NXP Semiconductors, which Apple relies on for near-field communication chips for Apple Pay. The city is located in Orange County, south of Los Angeles, and close to the University of California, Irvine, a school known for its engineering programs.

After apple news, Skyworks' stock price plummeted by 11%. Both Broadcom and Qualcomm shares fell about 4 percent. The industry predicts that Apple will release its self-developed baseband chip as soon as 2023, replacing Qualcomm's baseband use on the iPhone.
