Today, the number of mobile phone manufacturers that can produce folding screen mobile phones is steadily increasing. Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo (Motorola), OPPO, etc. have released one or more folding screen mobile phones, but also manufacturers are developing scroll screen mobile phones, many scroll screen phone prototypes have been unveiled, such as OPPO X 2021, TCL Fold'n Roll and so on. It is reported that Samsung is also developing this type of scroll screen phone, and the company's display department has already demonstrated a slidable device in May. In addition, the latest patent shows that Samsung seems to be also developing a scroll screen phone that can pull the screen upwards.

On May 21, 2021, Samsung filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO), which was released on December 16, entitled "Including Electronic Devices with Multi-State Displays and Methods of Control Thereof."
The patented picture shows a modern Samsung phone with a circle on the right and top of the screen, which gives the device a unique look. The image shows that the phone is almost full-screen designed with a slightly narrow border at the bottom. A special feature of this phone is the option to extend the screen to the right and up. The user can choose whether to zoom in on two parts or just one of the two parts.
A button is provided on the left side of the phone to initiate the unplugging process. Users can then use pinch movements up or to the side to determine the direction in which the screen should scroll inward or outward on the touchscreen. The screen can be enlarged by about 30% of the width and about 25% of the height. There is a space in the upper right corner of the phone to accommodate a selfie camera, which is placed in the frame. A camera is placed in the leftmost corner of the back of the phone – the opposite of a selfie camera.
When the phone is unfolded from the top or from the side, a different form factor is created and the system changes accordingly. This curlable smartphone can also be rotated 180° to use, after which the interface automatically adapts.
Overall, it's a uniquely designed smartphone that has never been seen before. Previously, the South Korean manufacturer also filed various trademark applications that the company may use as names for these new mobile devices — such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Slide and Galaxy Z Roll. At present, it is not known when the first Samsung scroll screen smartphone will be officially released. We're likely to hear more about this in 2022.
