In the seventy-fifth chapter of the novel, "Guan Yunchang Scrapes The Bone to Cure Poison, Lü Zi Understands the YiDu River", when Guan Yu attacked Fancheng, he was hit by a poisonous arrow in his right arm, the poison attacked into the bone, the right arm was bruised and swollen, and he could not move, and the crowd would look around for a famous doctor, and the divine doctor Hua Tuo heard that General Guan was a hero in the world, and now that he was poisoned by an arrow, he came to heal it.
The novel uses a large paragraph of text to render the details of Hua Tuo's scraping of Guan Yu's bones to cure poison, this scene can be described as wonderful, after reading it is absolutely unforgettable, limited to space, this article is no longer reprinted, interested readers can read the chapter again.
However, "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is a novel after all, comparing the plot in the novel with the records in the main history, it is not difficult for us to find that this scene in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is actually true and false, and virtual and real.
After Guan Yu was poisoned by an arrow, there was indeed an incident of scraping bones to cure poison, which is clearly recorded in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms and The Biography of Guan Yu":
Yu tasted the flow of arrows, through his left arm, and although the wound healed, every time it rained, the bone was often painful. The doctor said: "The arrow is poisonous, the poison enters the bone, when the broken arm is wounded, the bone is scraped to remove the poison, and then the disease is removed from the ear." Yu Ben stretched out his arm and ordered the doctor to split it. Shi Yushi asked the generals to eat oppositely, the blood in his arms flowed away, and he was on the plate, while Yu Cut moxibustion led the wine, and smiled freely.
The description of Guan Yu's bone scraping process in the main history and the novel are very similar, but Hua Tuo is not mentioned in the main history, and if it was Hua Tuo, a famous doctor in the world at that time, who healed Guan Yu's injuries, it would definitely be written in the main history, which shows that guan Yu should be someone else who scraped his bones.
In addition, in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hua Tuo Biography", 13 patients that Hua Tuo had seen were listed, from Guangling Taishou Chen Deng, down to some unknown small people, but there was no Guan Yu inside, as Guan Yu, who was also famous in the world at that time, if Hua Tuo really scraped Guan Yu's bones and healed his wounds, it would definitely be recorded in the history books.
More importantly, according to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu's bone scraping to cure poison probably occurred between the nineteenth year of Jian'an (214) and the twenty-fourth year of Jian'an (220 years), when Liu Bei had just taken Yizhou, and Guan Yu had not yet launched the Battle of Fancheng, while Hua Tuo had already been killed by Cao Cao in the thirteenth year of Jian'an (208), and he could never come back from the dead to cure the poison for Guan Yu in a few years!
So, why did Mr. Luo Guanzhong want Hua Tuo to come back to life in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and come forward to scrape Guan Yu's bones to cure the poison?
The author believes that Mr. Luo Guanzhong arranged for Hua Tuo to "appear" to heal Guan Yu's bones, mainly for the following two reasons:
First, it is related to the increasing worship of Guan Yu in later generations.
Mr. Luo Guanzhong was a Ming Dynasty man, when he created the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Guan Yu had changed from a man to a god after being sealed by successive feudal dynasties, and since Guan Yu had already been a god, then the person who treated the god should naturally not be an ordinary nameless doctor.
The most famous divine doctor in the Three Kingdoms era was Hua Tuo, so it was most natural for Mr. Luo Guanzhong to arrange for Hua Tuo to scrape Guan Yu's bones to cure poison.
Second, it has an important relationship with the creative tendency of the novel "supporting Liu and opposing Cao".
There is a big difference between Hua Tuo in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Hua Tuo in the main history. The historical Hua Tuo is highly skilled, but rarely associated with political figures, while the Hua Tuo in the novel is more or less related to Wei, Shu, and Wu.
Hua Tuo's first appearance in the fifteenth episode of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms was to heal the wounds of the famous Eastern Wu general Zhou Tai, zhou Tai was shot more than ten times in order to save Sun Quan, and his life was between Xu Zhen, Hua Tuo appeared to heal Zhou Tai's injuries, and he recovered after a month. This matter is also fictional, such an arrangement should be Luo Guanzhong's appreciation of Zhou Tai, who sacrificed himself as a savior.
Hua Tuo's real involvement with the Three Kingdoms characters is with Cao Cao, in the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hua Tuo Biography", because Cao Cao suffered from a headache, he repeatedly recruited Hua Tuo to come to treat him, but Hua Tuo used the excuse to shirk it, and Cao Cao was furious and sent someone to arrest Hua Tuo to Xu Du and torture him to death.
Under the writing tendency of "supporting Liu and opposing Cao Cao", since Cao Cao killed the divine doctor, he might as well let him have a little political color, and since Guan Yu had the fact of scraping bones to cure poison, he might as well regard the nameless doctor as a divine doctor Hua Tuo.
In this way, Hua Tuo, the "First Divine Doctor of Ancient Times", and Guan Yu, the "Martial Sage" who had long been a god since Song Yuanming, treated and healed their wounds together, which can be described as complementary, and both of them shined brilliantly.
