According to some records, the thing is this: Once, Guan Yu was accidentally shot through his left arm by a flying arrow. Later, although the wound was closed after treatment, it left a sequelae, and whenever it rained, the bone in his left arm would be severely painful. As a result, Guan Yu's staff recruited doctors who could cure him.
A few days later, a plainly dressed man came to Guan Yu's tent.
The man said that his name was Hua Tuo, and he heard that Guan Yunchang was a hero in the hearts of the people of the world, because he was accidentally injured by an arrow, so he came to treat Guan Yunchang. As we all know, Hua Tuo is one of the few outstanding surgeons in the history of Chinese medicine, who is good at using anesthesia, acupuncture, moxibustion and other methods, and is good at the surgical operation of opening the chest and abdomen. The method of surgery is not the mainstream treatment method of Traditional Chinese medicine based on the "respect for Confucianism" culture, and under the Confucian proposition of "the skin of the body and the parents", surgery has not developed on a large scale in Chinese medicine.
So, how did Hua Tuo treat Guan Yu's illness?
After Hua Tuo's examination, he said: "The arrow is poisonous, and now the poison has penetrated into the body with the blood and penetrated deep into the bones." If you want to completely solve the pain, you must cut open your arms and scrape off the bones contaminated with poison. ”

At that time, Guan Yu just invited some generals to drink and eat together, and Hua Tuo was on the side to treat him. His arms were covered in blood, while Guan Yu was still talking and laughing freely.
However, according to another document, the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, although it is true, it is not pointed out that it was Hua Tuo who treated Guan Yu. Seeing this, you may have a question, what is going on? At that time, was the person who treated Guan Yu really Hua Tuo? Or is it true that it was not Hua Tuo who was treated for Guan Yu that year, but someone else?

According to the Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms, Cao Cao once suffered from a headache, and every time the illness occurred, he would be upset and dizzy. Cao Cao invited a number of so-called famous doctors to treat him, but none of them had any effect. By chance, Cao Cao heard from the people around him that Hua Tuo's medical skills were superb and he was the best among the doctors. Therefore, Cao Cao sent someone to invite Hua Tuo to treat himself.
After Hua Tuo's treatment, Cao Cao's condition has obviously improved greatly. However, Hua Tuo told him that this was an old disease, and that he had been ill for too long to fundamentally eradicate his pain.
Cao Cao saw that Hua Tuo could really cure himself, so he wanted to keep him by his side, so he proposed to him to be his own doctor and give him endless glory and wealth.
Cao Cao's conditions were very tempting, but Hua Tuo did not care about the external things such as wealth, fame and fortune, and he only wanted to go home to study the prescription and relieve the world. Therefore, Hua Tuo used the excuse of "asking for a return to take the party" to ask Cao Cao for leave to return to his hometown. During this period, Cao Cao repeatedly urged Hua Tuo to return to his side and treat him alone, but Hua Tuo was unwilling to go back and refused Cao Cao's request on the grounds that his wife was ill.
Hua Tuo's actions made Cao Cao feel very angry that someone dared to disobey his orders so blatantly. Therefore, in 208 AD, Cao Cao sent someone to Hua Tuo's hometown to investigate. This is not good to investigate, an investigation found that Hua Tuo's wife's body is simply good, there is no disease. In a fit of rage, Cao Cao arrested Hua Tuo and then ordered Hua Tuo to be killed.
Probably because of the causal cycle, not long after Hua Tuo's death, Cao Cao's most beloved son had a serious illness and was very serious. However, because he could not find a doctor with high medical skills like Hua Tuo, he missed the opportunity to treat and died. Later, Cao Cao recalled this incident and sighed a long sigh, saying that he regretted that he had killed Hua Tuo and caused his son to die of illness.
From here, we can see that Hua Tuo died in 208 AD. The earlier mentioned Guan Yu scraping bone to cure poison, this incident occurred in 219 AD. At that time, Hua Tuo had been dead for eleven years, how could he scrape Guan Yu's bones to cure poison.
So, who was the person who healed Guan Yu at that time?
Originally, in order to be able to pass on his medical skills and benefit future generations, Hua Tuo taught all his medical skills and prescriptions to his disciples. Among them, Wu Pu and Fan A are outstanding representatives of Hua Tuo's many disciples. Wu Pu mainly learned the art of health maintenance to help people strengthen their bodies, while Fan Ah learned Hua Tuo's acupuncture and surgery. Both men have their own strengths and achievements in their respective fields.
Combined with the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and the "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", the mention of "Hua Tuo" for Guan Yu's bone scraping treatment method and the suggestion of using hemp boiling before moving the knife, the person who claims to be Hua Tuo should be Fan Ah. Because Hua Tuo has made great achievements in surgery, he often treats patients in some unexpected and very bold ways, so that he is called "divine doctor" by the world.
Hua Tuo's deeds such as helping patients perform surgery and traveling through the mountains to find prescriptions are widely spread in the folk and well-known, so people have great respect for him. It is also rumored that Fan A's medical skills even surpassed Hua Tuo's, and therefore, it is not surprising that people mistakenly regard the deeds of Hua Tuo's disciples as the deeds of Hua Tuo.
It is said that Fan A took medicine using the pharmaceutical technique of "lacquer leaf green sticky scatter" taught by Hua Tuo and lived to be more than a hundred years old.
