Bing Yuanyuan, deputy director of the Department of Medical Affairs of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced that since mid-October, there have been local clusters of new crown pneumonia in many places in China. After the outbreak of the epidemic, all localities adhered to the principle of "attaching equal importance to traditional Chinese and Western medicine, integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and using both Traditional Chinese and Western medicine", and organized the prevention and control of traditional Chinese medicine for the first time. In accordance with the overall deployment of the joint prevention and control mechanism of the State Council and local needs, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has sent staff and TCM experts to the place where the epidemic occurred to support the prevention and treatment of TCM and promote the early intervention, full use and comprehensive coverage of TCM.

In terms of treatment, traditional Chinese medicine is deeply involved in the whole process of treatment, and all localities carry out standardized and homogeneous traditional Chinese medicine treatment according to the national diagnosis and treatment plan. For mild and ordinary patients, traditional Chinese medicine treatment is the mainstay, improving the clinical symptoms such as fever, cough and fatigue, and reducing the development of severe diseases. For severe and critically ill patients, the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is adopted, "one person, one policy", giving full play to the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine in reducing high fever, promoting lung exudation and absorption, improving gastrointestinal symptoms, etc., slowing down or blocking the development of severe disease to critical illness, and promoting the transformation of severe disease to mild disease. At present, among locally confirmed cases and asymptomatic infected people, except for a few special cases, traditional Chinese medicine is widely used.

Li Yu, director of the Science and Technology Department of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, introduced that the Chinese medicine system has carried out many scientific research projects in the fight against the new crown pneumonia epidemic and has made outstanding contributions to the anti-epidemic work.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine has given full play to the unique advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in treating diseases, dialectical treatment, and multi-target intervention, and supported the development of emergency scientific research in traditional Chinese medicine. The State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine set up the "Special Project for Traditional Chinese Medicine Emergency Response to Novel Coronavirus Infection Pneumonia", combined with the characteristics of different stages of the epidemic and the specific conditions of scientific research work in relevant provinces; set up 91 projects to carry out research on the analysis of traditional Chinese medicine symptoms of epidemic diseases, community prevention and control of traditional Chinese medicine interventions, the clinical efficacy of effective prescription drugs, the rehabilitation of patients in the convalescent period, and the mechanism of action of traditional Chinese medicine.
