The NYPD is considering purchasing 250 Tesla Model 3s

According to Sina Financial News, the New York City Police Department is considering buying up to 250 all-electric Model 3 sedans from Tesla, which will make these high-performance cars into the hands of the largest police force in the United States.

The draft procurement contract shows that the NYPD pays $51,940 per car as part of the city's push for a transition to an all-electric fleet. While New York City has yet to commit to buying the cars, the contract, which will be discussed at a hearing Thursday morning, could be worth around $12.4 million.

Last month, car rental giant Hertz announced plans to buy 100,000 Tesla cars, which has sent Tesla's stock soaring, with a market capitalization of more than $1 trillion, but the current market value has fallen back to $980 billion.
