By the 23rd year of the Yuan Dynasty (1363), Chen Youyi personally led 600,000 people and horses to besiege Hongdu (Nanchang) on a huge ship, and Zhu Yuanzhang led 200,000 troops to relieve the siege. Chen Youyu turned the bow of the ship to meet Zhu Yuanzhang, and the two armies met on Kanglang Mountain on Poyang Lake, and a battle that shook ancient and modern times began.
The disparity in strength between the two armies is enormous. Chen Youyi's soldiers are many ships, the five thousand ships he commanded are huge, the ship building is divided into three floors, the hull is wrapped in iron, red paint, and from a distance, it looks like a red city outline. Zhu Yuanzhang not only had few men and horses, but also the warships were mostly small sampans, and the momentum was not strong.

However, in the face of the huge and well-equipped Chen army, Zhu Yuanzhang calmly and nimbly captured the enemy's weaknesses and mistakes, turned disadvantages into advantages, and at the beginning of entering the mouth of Jiangxi Lake, at the passes of Wuyang Water and Poyang Lake, Yangtze River and Poyang Lake, he sent troops at all levels to block it, restrict the deployment of its troops, prevent it from giving play to the advantages of multi-troop large ships, and form a strategic encirclement of Chen Youyi, so he grasped the strategic initiative from the beginning.
Then he concentrated most of his warships and troops to strike at Chen Jun one after another, and was good at taking advantage of the natural conditions such as wind direction and water flow to seize the advantageous attack position in a timely manner, lose no time in carrying out fire attacks, give full play to the role of firearms, and finally win more with less, strike large with small, and defeat the strong with the weak, thus creating a famous example of warfare in the history of China's water warfare and naval warfare.
After the Battle of Poyang Lake, one day, Zhu Yuanzhang took a bodyguard to play in Jinling, and when he passed the Banruo Temple, it was late, so he stayed in the temple.
The monks in the temple saw that although he was dressed in cloth, he had an extraordinary temperament, treated people and things together, and threw his hands and feet, quite a princely style. That guard was also different from ordinary people. In the chaotic times, the monks were very careful and carefully asked about his origins.
Zhu Yuanzhang did not want to reveal his identity, so he took up a pen and inscribed a poem on the wall of the temple: "Do not provoke the monks":
"
Do not provoke the monks
Ming Zhu Yuanzhang
Kill a million soldiers in Jiangnan,
The sword around his waist was bloody.
Mountain monks do not know heroes,
Just ask for the name.
Looking at the master who was not a good kind in front of him, the monk had to be silent. In this poem, the sound of the strings overflowed with arrogance, and there was also a steaming and murderous spirit, from Fengyang to Chuzhou, from Chuzhou to Nanjing, he had experienced hundreds of battles, and he was invincible, and this great defeat of Chen Youyu was even more heroic.
Although the purpose of this poem is not very elegant, scaring an unarmed old monk is not a hero, but this poem has a "sense of lens" and vividly reflects Zhu Yuanzhang's arrogant temperament.
