Eight hundred immortals were born after a thousand years: This prophecy of Xu Xun, the high dao of the Jin Dynasty, set off a boom in the late Ming Dynasty!

This is a long-standing and influential prophecy in the Daomen, called "chèn".

According to legend, this prophecy was left by Xu Xun, a high-ranking daoist of the Jin Dynasty.

"Divine Gong Miaoji Zhenjun" Xu Xun

According to the Taoist records, Xu Xun was a native of nanchang, Jiangxi, who worshiped Wu Meng of the Gao Dao as his teacher and cultivated successfully.

He once served as the commander of Jingyang County in Sichuan, and was a clean and honest official, with outstanding political achievements, and was deeply loved by the people, so the people called him "Xu Jingyang".

Later, when the officials retired to live in seclusion in Xishan, on the western outskirts of Nanchang, when the dragons of Pengli Lake (present-day Poyang Lake) were harmed, and the floods lasted for many years, Xu Xun led his disciples to cut down jiaojiao to control the water, benefiting the people and being respected by the people.

Legend has it that Xu Xun lived to be one hundred and thirty-six years old, and the whole family of forty-two people soared into immortals.

In later life, Xu Xun was constantly deified and revered as a god, and the pure Ming Dao, one of the important sects of Taoism, originated from the worship of him.

Xu Xun was enshrined as the ancestor of the Pure Ming Dao, and he was also known as the Four Heavenly Masters of Taoism along with Zhang Daoling, Ge Xuan, and Sa Shoujian.

The Four Great Heavenly Masters of Taoism

According to The Southern Song Dynasty's Gao Dao Bai Yu Toad's "Biography of Xu Zhenjun of Jingyang" and other Taoist documents, Xu Xun once escaped from a small dragon for the people to eliminate harm and dragons, and the disciples wanted to chase and kill them;

Xu Xun remembered that he had not yet done harm, and after escaping, he returned to take care of his mother, which was quite filial, so he let it go and said to the disciples: "If this snake is harmful to the people after five hundred years, (I) should come back and curse it." At the same time, there was a prophecy left behind —

"In the 1,240 years after Wu Xian's death, in the realm of Yu Zhang, within the Five Tombs, when there were eight hundred immortals out of the earth, their teachers came from Yu Zhang, and greatly promoted the Wu Sect. The heart of the gun river suddenly gave birth to a sandbar, and those who covered the mouth of the manhole were also at the time. At this time, if the little snake is harmful, the eight hundred people of him should be condemned to himself, and he will not harm things, nor can he be cursed. ”

That is to say, Xu Xun predicted that in the 1,240 years after his ascension to the Immortals, 800 Earth Immortals would appear in the Nanchang area as the center and even in the wider area. The Eight Hundred Immortals Division (Leader) was from the Nanchang area. They will greatly promote the teachings of Xu Xun.

So, what did the eight hundred immortals rely on to be born?

Xu Xun said that at that time, the sandbar regenerated from the heart of the Yuzhang River (present-day Ganjiang River) would cover the mouth of the shajing (Longsha). At that time, if the fleeing little dragon is harmful to the human world, it will be killed by eight hundred earth immortals, and if it does not do evil, it will still not be killed.

Longsha is a highland located about three miles northwest of the old town of Nanchang on the banks of the Ganjiang River.

According to the "Notes on the Water Classics", "Ganshui is also north of Longshaxi. The sand is very white, tall and steep, with the shape of a dragon, even in the middle of five miles, the old custom of September 9 is also elevated. ”

The prophecy of Xu Xun mentioned above is the "Dragon Sand Tan".

Xu Zhenjun slashed the dragon

Judging from the literature, this proverb has appeared in the Northern Song Dynasty, and by the time of the Southern Song Dynasty, it was basically fixed and had a wide impact on society.

The Northern Song Dynasty scholar Pan Xingsi once wrote a poem "Longsha": "Five Tombs Unlimited People, Secret Vision of Longsha Ji." Although Longsha has not been combined, the weather has been magical..."

He Zhengong, who founded the Jingming Dao at the beginning of the Southern Song Dynasty, said in the "Lingbao Jingming New Cultivation Nine Old Divine Seal Voldemort Secret Method": "This saying (Long Sha Chen) is contained in the square book, and now the Yellow Boy Bai Shuo is familiar with it. ”

There is a folk proverb in the Nanchang area: "Longsha is higher than the shoulder, and here there are gods; Longsha is higher than the city, and here are saints." ”

Liu Yu, who reformed the Jingming Dao in the early Yuan Dynasty, even used the "Long Sha Tan" to establish his orthodox status and attract followers.

Liu Yu claimed to be the master of the Eight Hundred Immortals from Yu Zhang in Xu Xun's prophecy, and said that his mission was "the fortune of the Thousand Years, the Number of Immortals of the Eight Hundred", with Xu Xun as the first generation of the Ancestor of the Pure Ming Dao (Jingyang Gongyi), and he himself as the second generation of the ancestor (Jingyang Gong'er).

A pure and clear path that integrates Confucianism and emphasizes loyalty and filial piety

In the Ming Dynasty, the "Long Sha Tan" had a more enthusiastic and extensive influence, especially during the Wanli period, which set off a boom among the Jiangnan Shi people. This is mainly due to --

First, according to Xu Xun's prophecy, the period of 1,240 years fell roughly in the Wanli period of the late Ming Dynasty;

Second, the vision of the dragon sand in the proverb has appeared in the Wanli calendar. as:

According to the Wanli dynasty literary scholar and bibliophile Song Maocheng, "(Xu Xun) Zhenjun Zhenyun 'Longsha is higher than the city, Nanchang is a saint'", "Now Longsha is more than the city".

Wang Shisheng, a human geographer and a five-year-old scholar of the Wanli Dynasty, also said in the Guangzhixuan: "There are old sayings: 'Longsha is higher than the city, and jiangnan is a saint.'" 'The sand has been in the city for more than ten years. ”

Third, during the Wanli Dynasty, a peculiar female Taoist priest, Tan Yangzi, happened to appear, who was revered by believers as a person of honor (the master of the Eight Hundred Immortals).

Tan Yangzi, whose real name was Wang Taozhen, was the daughter of the university scholar Wang Xijue. During the festival for her fiancé who died early, she claimed to be guided by many immortals such as Jinmu and Guanyin, and she was enlightened by the major events of life and death, and called herself "Tan Yangzi".

Her father, Wang Xijue, is said to have been inspired by her various miracles to worship her, and her uncle Wang Dingjue also worshipped her as a teacher.

According to the "Wan Li Ye Zhi Zhi" compiled by the late Ming dynasty literary scholar Shen Defu, no less than hundreds of people who paid tribute to Tan Yangzi as disciples at that time, including many literati and celebrities, such as:

The famous writer and historian Wang Shizhen (there is a saying that he was the author of "Jin Ping Mei"), the literary scholar and opera composer Tu Long, the poet Feng Mengzhen, and so on.

Tan Yangzi predicted that he would be feathered on the ninth day (September 9) of the eighth year of the Wanli Calendar, in present-day Taicang Zhitang, Jiangsu. It is said that there were 100,000 people who came to send them off that day, crying and praying, and the days went on and on.

In this way, with the advent of the 1,240-year period of the "Longsha Gong" and the appearance of the "Longsha Crossing the City" YingChen Vision, Tan Yangzi was worshipped by the admirers as the person who should be damned, and in the larger context, under the social atmosphere of the late Ming Dynasty, Long Shachen set off a boom in the Jiangnan Shi people.

These scholars believed that there was a list of "Eight Hundred Immortals", and they were not only interested in finding out who would be immortal, but also hoped that they would be listed among the Longsha Immortals.

For example, Feng Mengzhen once talked to some friends on a snowy night about who would be listed among the "Eight Hundred Immortals", including himself: "... Of the eight hundred people, Yu had to be listed, and Mr. Deng was the leader, Kun Yi was second, and Right Wu and Hefu were counted..."

In a letter to his friend, Tu Long encouraged him to strive to ascend to the immortals: "Xu Jingyang Longsha Eight Hundred Curses, karma at this time... May the feet work hard and be longsha. ”

According to Song Maocheng, the vision of Longsha crossing the city made "everyone who cultivates think that they have the Dao";

In his letter to Wang Shizhen, Tu Long also said that under the influence of the coming period of Long Shachen, "Fang Jin's sages are handsome, and Jinjin is good at talking about the dao of the world, and there are more than the previous generations."

It can be seen that the popularity of the Longshayu faith in the late Ming Dynasty is not only larger in scope, but also deeper in degree, and the heat is also stronger.

Toyotomi Hideyoshi

Interestingly, according to the "WanliYe Compilation", the literary novel "Chopping Jiao" written in the late Ming Dynasty (Wanli Korean War: Japan invaded Korea, the Ming Dynasty sent a large army to resist and aid Korea, and finally the Sino-Korean coalition army won the victory), also associated Long Shachen with the Japanese Taiko and the Japanese commander Toyotomi Hideyoshi -

According to the text, Toyotomi Hideyoshi is not a human being, but a demon. What kind of demon? It was the little dragon that Xu Xun zhenjun let go when he cut off the dragon.

After escaping, it entered the sea from the river and finally came to Japan. After more than 1,200 years, the types of harmed things are innumerable. Now he has become a human form, and has gone to the human world to stir up trouble, and the world has been destroyed.

The novel describes the Chinese immortals who obeyed the Mandate of Heaven and destroyed the evil toyotomi Hideyoshi, who was a scourge on the human world. And the main blade of the elimination of harm is Tan Yangzi.

In the novelist's pen, Long Shachen echoed the current politics of the time and was well fulfilled!
