In order not to let the secret fall into the hands of the enemy, the 23-year-old jumped into the Bohai Bay with her husband and 2-year-old child

One day in October 1946, a merchant ship heading northeast was intercepted by Nationalist forces as it sailed into the Bohai Sea. Because of the traitors' whistleblowing, they learned that the ship had Communists carrying secret Communist documents. Therefore, they forced the ship to stop with cannons and forcibly boarded the ship to search for it.

In the face of the sudden arrest, a Communist couple who had long made a promise of "swearing to coexist and die with secrets" looked at each other and nodded at each other. Then, after clutching the confidential documents to their chests, they hugged the young children and the family of three hugged each other tightly, jumped resolutely, and resolutely jumped into the rolling waves of the Bohai Bay.

She was 23, he was 25, and the child had just turned 2.

Her name is Dong Jianmin, born in 1923, and her family lives in a village named Liu Xiangzhuang in Jinghai County, Hebei Province (after liberation in 1948, it belonged to Tianjin). Although the family is poor and there are two sisters in front of them, their parents are enlightened, so the three sisters have been sent to school.

Dong Jianmin is smart and studious, and at the same time has excellent grades, she also knows that it is not easy for her parents to provide them with education, so she later took the initiative to drop out of school and stay at home to help her parents do farm work. However, she did not give up reading, and she would still pick up books to study in her spare time.

She had an uncle named Dong Qiusi, who had read a lot of books, and because she longed for a new life, she joined the Communist Party early and became an underground party member. Under the influence of their uncle, the three sisters of the Dong family also began to yearn for revolution, and they also mentioned it to their uncle many times.

Dong Qiusi naturally understood the hardships of the revolutionary road and might even give his life. Therefore, in the early years, he rejected three children because of his young age. However, as the children grew older, Dong Qiusi also found that their yearning for revolution was not just a matter of words, so he took the three sisters to Hong Kong in 1939 and traveled around to Yan'an in 1940 to study at Northern Shaanxi Public School. After that, the three joined the Communist Party one after another.

In 1941, after the 18-year-old Tung Jianmin underwent many tests, he was transferred to the Social Information Department of the CPC Central Committee as an important confidential officer. Although she was young, she had a passion for her work, and was often praised by her leaders. There, too, she met someone who wanted to work together for the rest of her life: Zhong Qi.

Zhong Qi also works in the confidential section, and is also a member of the Communist Party, and the two have a very tacit understanding in their work, and they also have feelings of affection and decide to form a connection. In 1942, the two were married in the jujube garden. Although the wedding was very simple, under the blessing of the comrades, the faces of the newlyweds were filled with a strong sense of happiness.

They also took an oath on that day with a common faith:

In order for millions of people to be liberated, in order to realize the communist ideal, it is better to sacrifice their own lives than to divulge the secrets of the party, and vow to coexist and die with the code!

The two encourage each other in their work and understand each other in life, like a pair of fairy lovers, which is enviable. However, this stability and happiness has not always accompanied them.

On the day Japan announced its surrender in 1945, the couple held their one-year-old child and were filled with excitement. But the Communists understood that the battle had not ended, and that the liberation struggle was still fraught with hardships.

In October 1946, Hu Zongnantun had 100,000 troops, and it was only a matter of time before he launched a large-scale attack on Yan'an, and the contradictions between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party were completely intensified.

As the political core of our party, the importance of Yan'an is self-evident. Therefore, in order to preserve its strength, the Party Central Committee decided to evacuate Yan'an and move to the northeast to establish a revolutionary base area.

In order to ensure the smooth development of revolutionary work, it is urgent for party cadres and troops to go to the northeast to lay the foundation. As the top priority of intelligence work, the confidential section must be the first to be sent to have a good technical level in order to better cooperate with various departments to carry out their work.

But who is more suitable to send? After Li Kenong thought left and right, he thought of Dong Jianmin and Zhong Qi.

Founding General Li Kenong

Because the transfer route is long and important confidential documents must be carried, there will naturally be various dangers along the way. And their children are only two years old, if the couple really encounters something unexpected on the road, what should the children do? Therefore, at first, Li Kenong also sent someone to consult with them and ask them what they thought.

Hearing that the organization was going to assign an important task, the husband and wife agreed very tacitly. He also gave feedback to the organization: "The two of us are originally husband and wife, and we have a tacit understanding in life and work, and the flaws are naturally much less." And we can go with our kids. A family of three went to the northeast to visit relatives, and it was no longer normal..."

In this way, under the arrangement of the organization, a family of three first went out to Qingdao, Shandong Province, with confidential documents, and then took the waterway through Dalian to the northeast.

In fact, just from Yan'an to Qingdao, they have experienced many dangers. Wherever there were Kuomintang troops stationed, there were defensive lines everywhere. Even the squad leader who escorted them to the Qingdao wharf sacrificed himself in a different place to cover them. The three of them went around and reached the Qingdao wharf smoothly, but there were still enemies searching closely.

So, how to bring the secrets on board became the first problem.

The ship had been started, and the time was getting closer and closer, but they still couldn't think of anything. The person in charge of the ticket inspection has begun to shout: "There are those who have not boarded the ship, the ship is leaving..."

At this moment, Zhong Qi looked at the child in his wife's arms and thought of something, so he hugged the child and hid the dense piece wrapped in oil cloth into the child's diaper. Although the enemy was not careful, even the diapers on one of the children's bodies would be opened to see, and the three of them successfully boarded the ship.

I thought that the thrill would end here, but I did not think that the enemy's intelligence officers had learned that some Communists had secretly taken a boat from Qingdao to the northeast. The military commander immediately sent men to chase the ship, but by the time they reached the dock, the merchant ship had already set sail.

Will the enemy stop there? Necessarily impossible.

Seeing that the ship had already sailed to Bohai Bay, and the distance was more than halfway through, Dong Jianmin and Zhong Qi had already begun to plan how to carry out their work after arriving at their destinations, but they did not know that a warship had fired shells, blocking the ship's way. The two-year-old was also injured by a sudden burst of shrapnel and began to cry.

Then the Nationalist army boarded the ship and began a full-scale search. In the middle of the wide sea, the couple had a little panic, but they quickly calmed down.

Dong Jianmin understood the look in her husband's eyes, hugged her tightly, and pressed the secret to his chest, and then took the crying child into his arms. The people around them watched their strange movements, as if they understood something, but none of them spoke much.

In the end, the family of three resolutely jumped into the Bohai Bay and disappeared into the rolling waters.

Bohai Bay

The wind is cold and the water is cold, and the hero will not return once he is gone! The country is in difficulty, the people have the responsibility, even if the blood is dried up, the sacrifice of life is not resigned!

The revolution was able to succeed because countless people like them did their best to get it. Therefore, we can see the five-star red flag rising in Tiananmen Square.

Salute to all intelligence personnel of the Communist Party of China, salute to all revolutionaries!
