Later, with the development of the situation, Liu Zhang and Liu Bei changed from friendly troops to enemy troops, and the military division Pang Tong was unfortunately killed in battle, and Liu Bei had to draw Zhuge Liang, Zhang Fei and other support from Jingzhou to take Xichuan, and attack Yizhou from different directions. At that time, Liu Feng was just over twenty years old, and he was a young man who "had martial arts and excellent strength", and he also entered Shu with Zhuge Liang and Zhang Fei. In the process of fighting with Liu Zhangjun, Liu Feng made many military achievements in the battle, so after Liu Bei pacified Yizhou, he appointed Liu Feng as a lieutenant general in the army.

After Liu Bei occupied Hanzhong, he began to expand to the surrounding areas, and in 219 AD, he sent Yidu Taishou Mengda to attack Fangling to the north, and the Taishou who was stationed at Fangling at that time was Pu Qi. Liu Bei was both happy and worried about Meng Da's siege of the city and the land, fearing that he was not under control, so he ordered the deputy Zhonglang to send Liu Feng from the Han River to the west to restrain Meng Da. At that time, Shangyong Taishou Shenyun and Xicheng Taishou Shenyi were unable to resist and were forced to surrender to Liu Feng and Meng Da, and Liu Feng was made a deputy general for this merit.

Liu Bei reprimanded Liu Feng for bullying Meng Da and not supporting Guan Yu, but Zhuge Liang was worried about Liu Feng's "fierceness" and feared that Liu Bei's crown prince Liu Chan would be unable to control him, so he advised Liu Bei to take this opportunity to get rid of Liu Feng in order to avoid future troubles. After weighing it up, Liu Bei agreed with Zhuge Liang's opinion and ordered Liu Feng to commit suicide. After Receiving such an order, Liu Feng sighed and said, "Hate not to use Mencius' words!" When Liu Bei learned of Liu Feng's death, he was very distressed and wept over it.
Judging from Liu Bei's performance in executing Liu Feng, he still had certain feelings for Liu Feng, and the reason why he committed suicide was also out of helplessness, on the one hand, Liu Feng himself was indeed wrong, on the other hand, his existence could indeed have a negative impact on the Shu Han court after his death. Therefore, Liu Feng's death was mainly due to his embarrassing adopted son status, of course, it was also related to his failure to support Guan Yu and the loss of the three counties of Shangyong, and these comprehensive factors were the real reasons for Liu Feng's death.
