HOUSTON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- On the evening of December 12, in Baytown, Harris County, Texas, a motorist opened fire on the crowd attending the vigil, killing 1 person and injuring 13 others.
Harris County Police Chief Gonzalez told the media that the shooting occurred nearly 19:00 CENTRAL TIME, when people attending the vigil were releasing balloons into the air and a gunman drove past the crowd and shot at them. Gonzalez said 14 people were then taken to hospital, 1 of whom died and 3 were in critical condition, including children.
One witness told local television that he heard twenty or thirty gunshots.
The gunman is still at large and his motives are unknown, and the police have launched an investigation.
According to local media reports, the vigil on the evening of the 12th was held by a local mother for her son who was killed a few weeks ago.
