"Iron Horse Assault" vs. Apple Watch? Google will push the first smartwatch

Reference news network reported on December 14 that the Spanish "Economist" website recently reported that after the specific details about the Pixel smart watch it is developing its first private brand were disclosed, Google will move towards wearable devices has almost been nailed.

In 2021, Google is focused on launching a new high-end phone, the Pixel 6, hoping to reopen the way for other Android makers. The company's direction for 2022 is the same, but with a smartwatch running wear OS.

The US Business Insider website quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Google is developing its first private-label Pixel smartwatch, which is expected to launch in 2022. Highly coordinated with the Pixel phone that has been launched for many years, the watch, tentatively named "Pixel Watch" in the media, will compete directly with Apple's Apple Watch. At present, this watch does not have a trade name, and Google employees refer to it as "Rohan" (the powerful kingdom known for its tough cavalry in the magic movie "The Lord of the Rings").

The Rohan will be a high-end smartwatch with a price similar to the Apple Watch, the aim of which is to make a direct comparison and show how far the Wear OS system has come. Don't forget, the latest generation of Wear OS 3 was developed in collaboration with Samsung, but so far the Wear OS 3 version has only appeared on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.

A very strange detail is that Rohan won't be developed by wearables maker Fitbit, even though the company was acquired by Google at the beginning of the year for $2.1 billion; the same team responsible for developing the Pixel phone will be in charge. Still, the watch system will be integrated into the Fitbit platform and will be able to record basic data such as steps and heart rate.

This will be Google's first watch, although it has been providing an operating system for wearables for years. (Compilation/Han Chao)
