Recently, the infection of new crown pneumonia by former employees of the P3 laboratory of Taiwan's "Academia Sinica" has aroused public concern on the island.

A former laboratory employee infected with covid-19 reported that he had taken off his gloves first after being bitten by a laboratory rat

On December 9, the Taiwan Epidemic Command Center announced a new local case of new coronary pneumonia (case 16816), which was a staff member of the P3 laboratory of Taiwan's "Academia Sinica" who had just left in early December, and the virus was sequenced to delta variant.

According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency", on December 12, the Taiwan Regional Epidemic Command Center said that as of now, 259 contacts of the locally confirmed case have been tested, and the PCR nucleic acid test results are negative.

The Taiwan Regional Epidemic Command Center reported on the 12th that among the contacts of the local confirmed case, 105 people took home isolation, 34 people adopted independent health management, and 340 people took self-health monitoring. The 259 contacts tested included all home isolation, self-contained health managers, and 120 self-health monitors.

According to a previous report by overseas networks, the former staff of the P3 laboratory of Taiwan's "Academia Sinica" who was diagnosed was bitten by a laboratory rat twice in October and November.

Chen Jianzhang, director of the Academic and Instrumentation Affairs Division of Taiwan's "Academia Sinica", revealed that on the day the case was bitten in November, it was contacted with mice with alpha strain, and the research work on mice with Delta strain was carried out by another colleague. Therefore, Taiwan's "Academia Sinica" judged that it may be an error in the work of a certain link, resulting in interactive infection in the P3 laboratory.

Chen Shizhong, commander of the Taiwan Epidemic Command Center, pointed out that at least the preliminary determination is not caused by rat bites, and it is not excluded that the infection is caused by wearing and removing protective clothing in the buffer area.

According to the United News Network, Chen Shizhong pointed out on December 12 that it may be that the laboratory's SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) has problems at the implementation level. He mentioned that the general SOP is to take off the protective clothing and then take off the gloves, but the case self-statement said that because it was bitten by a rat on the same day, it first took off the gloves and then took off the protective clothing, which is indeed different from the original SOP operation. However, whether it has been infected as a result is still uncertain and requires a detailed investigation.
