Chuanlian Power's 22nm high-compression range will be verified as soon as the first quarter of next year

According to the Taiwan media "Economic Daily", the 22nm high-pressure process developed by UMC in cooperation with Samsung will begin trial production verification as soon as the first quarter of next year, when a new OLED driver IC will be built for Samsung.

It is reported that UMC confirmed that the 22nm high compression process is being developed in response to customer needs, but it is impossible to disclose the customer name. Taiwan media analysis said that at present, only Samsung has the ability to introduce the 22nm high compression process of UMC, and the first quarter of next year will begin a small trial production verification, with an initial production capacity of thousands of pieces, and then gradually enlarged to tens of thousands of pieces.

The report pointed out that the UMC 22nm process can reduce the grain area by 10% compared with the original 28nm process, and has a better power-efficiency ratio and stronger RF performance. The 22nm high-compression range is increased from the original supportable 1.8V/3.3V/5V/8V to a maximum of 10V/18V.
