Recently, the first literary history to present the centennial state of Chinese vernacular prose, the Centennial History of Chinese Vernacular Prose, was published. The book distills the development context of the century-old vernacular prose into six key words such as "enlightenment, salvation, revolution, new enlightenment, new humanities, and presence", allowing readers to glimpse the century-old style of Chinese vernacular prose through these keywords.

On December 12, in Meishan, Sichuan, the "hometown of prose", a sharing meeting was held for the book, which was attended by the editor-in-chief of "A Hundred Years of Chinese Vernacular Prose" and nearly 60 experts, scholars and prose writers from inside and outside the province.

Meishan is the "hometown of prose". There were eight tang and song essays, Meishan accounted for three, and during the two Song Dynasties, meishan jinshi as many as 880. "Counting from the 'Three Sus', Meishan has been beautiful in the prose world for a thousand years, and today's event is a tribute to the long thousand years of a short hundred years." Ma Ping, director of the Innovation and Research Department of the Sichuan Writers Association and a famous writer, said that not only that, Meishan is also the birthplace of the presentist prose movement, so coming to Meishan to participate in this activity can be said to have stepped into the two territories of vernacular prose and literary prose.

"Coming to the place where the prose context comes to share prose, I am very scared. This event can also be said to be a 'homecoming' activity in the thousand-year context of modern prose, and it is also a pilgrimage activity. At the sharing meeting, Professor Tang Xiaolin, editor-in-chief of the Centennial History of Chinese Vernacular Prose and Professor of the School of Literature and Journalism of Sichuan University, shared some of the situation of the book.

Tang Xiaolin said that the reason why he came to edit this "Centennial History of Chinese Vernacular Prose" was mainly inspired by the times. What happened in this hundred years? Before writing, Tang Xiaolin had been thinking. He believes that in the past hundred years, there have been "major changes unprecedented in a hundred years", and this change has not changed, that is, to build ancient China into a modern nation-state. Vernacular prose not only actively participated in and deeply involved in this movement, but also played an irreplaceable and important role in this movement in other genres such as novels, poetry and drama in the same period.

Therefore, Tang Xiaolin took this as the theme of this book. "With this as the theme, we can integrate this century of prose history, one is to integrate different types of writers, and the other is to integrate different works."

In addition, in order to reflect the "popularity" of vernacular prose, the book also allows the public to understand and like to read, so "good reading" has become one of the pursuits of writers. In Tang Xiaolin's view, the "Centennial History of Chinese Vernacular Prose" should be a good-looking literary history based on the construction of the modern nation-state, based on the presence and responsibility of literature.

"With six key words, this literary history paints a six-screen picture of the century-old flow of Chinese vernacular prose, and its background color is a deep sense of home and country." Young critic Gong Yingying also expressed her love for a century of history, she said, it allows us to find through the dust and smoke of history, as a vernacular prose scattered on the edge of novels, poems, and dramas, it also shoulders the heavy responsibility of the construction of a modern nation-state.
