Cerebrovascular disease in China accounts for about one-fifth of all deaths, and is characterized by high morbidity, mortality, disability, recurrence and complications. From December 10 to 12, the 2021 Xiamen Cerebrovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Forum was held online and offline.

More than 70 well-known experts and scholars in the field of cerebrovascular disease from nearly 30 top hospitals in the country, such as Xuanwu Hospital of Capital Medical University, Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, Beijing Tiantan Hospital, and Changhai Hospital affiliated to Naval Medical University, jointly discussed and promoted the high-quality development of cerebrovascular disease prevention and treatment. As of 17:30 on the afternoon of the 11th, the number of online viewers exceeded 46,000.

Professor Tian Xinhua, chairman of the conference, vice president of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University and leader of neurosurgery, said that after 16 years of development and improvement, the forum has become a high-level learning exchange platform and professional academic event with a certain scale and influence in the field of Chinese mainland. This year, due to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, the scale of online teaching has been expanded, and the lineup of experts has become stronger.

The forum set up the main venue and the neurointerventional salon and the intensive care forum two sub-venues, experts and scholars from all over the country through classic case discussion, academic lectures, on-site interaction and other ways, summarized the hot and difficult issues in the prevention and treatment of cerebrovascular disease in 2021, guided the more standardized, precise, health optimization and integration of medical directions, and strived to improve the level of cerebrovascular disease diagnosis and treatment in the region.

Professor Tian Xinhua said that in China, 1 person has a stroke every 6 seconds! One person dies of a stroke every 21 seconds. Stroke is still the first major residual disease in China, and 60%-70% of patients with cerebral vascular rupture have different degrees of sequelae after surgery. In some developed countries, due to the strong concept of prevention and treatment, more than 80% of cerebral aneurysms can be detected before rupture and treated in time.

The Department of Neurosurgery of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Xiamen University is the earliest independent neurology professional discipline in Xiamen, and is now a national advanced stroke center awarded by the Stroke Prevention and Control Engineering Committee of the National Health Commission, participated in the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" key topics related to cerebrovascular disease organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, and is a sub-specialty of neurovascular interventional medicine and a clinical research center for cerebrovascular diseases in Xiamen.

"We have just recently passed the selection of the National Health Commission's Capacity Building and Continuing Education Center, and have been shortlisted for the first batch of national neurointerventional construction centers with a good result of eighth place, and are also the only ones in Fujian Province." Professor Chen Yi, deputy director of the Department of Neurosurgery administration of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Xiamen University, shared the good news at the meeting, "In the future, we will better build a standardized diagnosis and treatment center for neurointervention through teaching and training, and comprehensively promote the professional development of neurointervention and the construction of talent team." ”

Cerebrovascular disease is divided into hemorrhagic and ischemic two, neurosurgery treatment mainly using open microsurgery and neuro intervention technology, whether it is hemorrhagic aneurysms, vascular malformations or ischemic carotid artery stenosis and moyamoyasis and other patients, microsurgery can be through craniotomy clipping, plaque resection or vascular bypass, so that lesions are treated, patient rehabilitation, Zhongshan Hospital Neurosurgery has the most comprehensive treatment methods of comprehensive application and compound surgical experience.

Professor Chen Yi said that the neurointerventional treatment for hemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease focuses on "repairing the pipeline", because of its minimally invasive nature and the rapid expansion of the scope of technical application, it has been widely popular in recent years, and can effectively treat aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, dural arteriovenous fistulas, internal carotid cavernous sinus fistulas, spinal vascular malformations, chronic subdural hematomas, etc.

At present, the hospital has nearly 1,000 units of interventional treatment and angiography for hemorrhagic cerebrovascular disease every year. Professor Tian Xinhua and Professor Chen Yi also stressed that cerebrovascular disease, as a high-risk chronic disease, can be acute onset, seriously endangering the lives of patients, and must be prevented early and diagnosed and treated early, and it is recommended that people over 45 years old can conduct cerebrovascular health physical examination through ultrasound, magnetic resonance angiography and other technologies.
