Sinopec Capital and Cummins set up a joint venture to build a green hydrogen value chain

(hereinafter referred to as the "joint venture"), the joint venture company will land in Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, Foshan Municipal Government and representatives of the joint venture company signed a landing agreement at the 2021 United Nations Development Programme Hydrogen Energy Industry Conference held here to draw a blueprint for green hydrogen development.

The joint venture will carry out localized product development, production and sales of leading proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis hydrogen production technology in China, and use water electrolysis technology plus renewable energy hydrogen production technology to jointly promote the development of green hydrogen production schemes and break through the bottleneck of renewable energy development.

The Xianhu Hydrogen Valley in Nanhai District, Foshan, where the joint venture company is located, is one of the first batch of regions in China to support and develop the hydrogen industry, and has been approved to build the only national technical standard innovation base (hydrogen energy) in China and passed the acceptance. The park is committed to building a leading independent hydrogen energy technology pioneer, a high-end hydrogen energy industry agglomeration area and an advanced hydrogen energy social demonstration area, and has become a leading area for the commercialization and innovative development of China's hydrogen energy industry.

It is reported that the production line of the joint venture company will produce Cummins HylyZER series proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis water hydrogen production equipment, the first phase of the annual output capacity of 500 MW will be completed and mass production in 2022, and the subsequent production capacity can be expanded to GW (1000 MW) according to market demand. At the same time, it will also provide a variety of product system solutions for the hydrogen production market, which are used in diversified application scenarios such as hydrogen refueling stations and industrial hydrogen production. Through the introduction of technology, research and development to industrialization, green hydrogen becomes "affordable and used", helping green hydrogen to become a competitive energy source, and being widely promoted and applied in various fields such as industry and transportation.

According to the data, sinopec group annual hydrogen production in 2020 up to 3.5 million tons, accounting for 14% of the country's hydrogen production; in the same year, put forward the vision of building the world's leading clean energy chemical company, the whole hydrogen energy industry chain as the core business of new energy development, anchored the construction of "China's largest hydrogen energy company", and continuously promoted the decarbonization transformation from gray hydrogen.
