Lee Kar-chiu: The Hong Kong Legislative Council will no longer be a venue for weakening the SAR government

Hong Kong, 8 Dec (China News Service) -- In a video speech at an event on 8 December, Lee Ka-chiu, chief secretary for administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said that improving the election system has defended most of the internal destructive forces, and the Legislative Council will no longer be a venue for subverting or weakening the SAR government.

Lee Ka-chiu pointed out that the Hong Kong National Security Law has not only filled in the most urgent national security loopholes, but also built a protective city wall, and the SAR government has begun to legislate article 23 of the Hong Kong Basic Law, which will be completed as soon as possible, and this protective city wall will be more stable.

He said that Hong Kong ushered in the era of construction, but this construction is not taken for granted and can be obtained at your fingertips. Hong Kong needs to be more active and committed, and it must make greater efforts in at least three aspects.

First, consolidate the foundation and lay a good foundation. In order to continue to improve the national security legal system, in addition to completing the legislation of Article 23 of the Hong Kong Basic Law as soon as possible, it is also necessary to crack down on terrorist activities and false information, maintain network security, and establish an effective intelligence system. It is necessary to promote the correct understanding of the Constitution and the Hong Kong Basic Law by the whole society and understand the constitutional foundation of the SAR. To build a social consciousness of supporting "one country, two systems," we should not use "two systems" to resist China and the interior.

Second, self-improvement and focus on development. It is necessary to make good use of the mainland's high-speed and high-quality development opportunities and the advantages given to Hong Kong as an international metropolis by "one country, two systems" to comprehensively restore and strengthen economic development. With the full support of the state and the spirit of self-improvement in Hong Kong, Hong Kong will certainly be able to consolidate its traditional advantages and create diversified development opportunities entrusted by the 14th Five-Year Plan, the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Qianhai Plan. "Hong Kong's 'Development Train' has started, and I am full of confidence in Hong Kong's future development."

Third, be awe-inspiring and tell the story of Hong Kong well. Hong Kong has experienced a long period of illegal "Occupy Central" in 2014, the Mong Kok riots in 2016, the "black riots" in 2019 and the intervention and sabotage of external forces, and foreign and "Taiwan independence" forces have deliberately slandered and vilified the image of Hong Kong.
