On December 4th, the first "Youth Forum on Traditional Chinese Color Research (2021)", co-sponsored by the Fine Arts Research Institute of the China Academy of Arts and the Yangtze River School of Art and Design of Shantou University, was held at the Academic Exchange Center of Shantou University. At the opening ceremony, Chen Min, vice president of Shantou University, Niu Kecheng, initiator of the Chinese Traditional Color Academic Annual Conference and president of the Chinese Academy of Arts, Hang Jian, director of the art museum group of China Academy of Art, Song Jianming, director of the Color Research Institute of China Academy of Art and former vice president of China Academy of Art, Hang Chunxiao, head of the Fine Arts Research Institute of China Academy of Art, Shang Hui, president and editor-in-chief of Fine Arts Magazine, Zhu Sha, president of China Fashion Color Association, and Lin Dongyue, secretary of the Party Committee of The Yangtze River College of Art and Design of Shantou University, delivered speeches successively. In his speech, Chen Min introduced the development history of Shantou University and the characteristics of discipline construction. He said that since its establishment in 1981, the school has accumulated rich experience in talent training and discipline construction, complete in arts, sciences and medical engineering, and has 1 national key discipline, 5 postdoctoral mobile stations, 6 doctoral programs in first-level disciplines, and a batch of master's programs in first-level disciplines. Since its establishment, Shantou University has focused on the goal of educating people with "ambition, knowledge, perseverance and achievement", adhered to the student-oriented, reform of the university management system and innovation of talent training mode. In particular, in the cultivation of young people, they are unique and at the forefront of the times. He also said that Chinese people have lived in a colorful field since ancient times, from the garden buildings they inhabit to the tools and utensils for daily use, from the painter's colorful painting scrolls to the painted sculptures of grotto craftsmen, from the colorful costumes of natural dyeing to the artificially made painted pigments, etc., woven into a stunning color system and visual world. The study of traditional Chinese color is exactly the need to discover the practical laws of traditional Chinese colors, reveal the conceptual characteristics of traditional Chinese colors, so that these achievements can benefit the color application of art, design and other disciplines, promote the construction of color systems and discourse methods with Chinese heritage, and take the road of Chinese style art practice.

The first "Chinese Traditional Color Academic Research Youth Forum (2021)" was proposed by Niu Kecheng of the China Academy of Arts, initiated by Chen Yanqing and Xiao Shimeng of Shantou University, and undertaken by the Chinese Traditional Color Theory Research Center of the Yangtze River College of Art and Design of Shantou University, adhering to the purpose of "building a communication platform for young scholars of traditional Chinese color, excavating and cultivating reserve talents for traditional Chinese color research, and promoting the innovation and development of traditional Chinese color research". The first forum brought together young experts and scholars in many disciplines and fields, and conducted extensive and effective research and discussion on the concepts, materials, processes and applications of traditional colors.

This year's forum set up a total of 4 keynote speeches and academic discussions, participating experts around the color concept, color culture, color science and application and white topics, from the painting color, architectural color, clothing color, ceramic color, dyeing and weaving color, color terminology, pigment technology and many other perspectives, the concept of traditional color, culture, history, image, technology, application and other aspects of the latest research results.
