Urban Youth Research Institute: When did you start taking pictures of your grandparents? Why is there such an idea?

Xu Kai: When I was in my first year of high school, it would probably be in my teens, and I felt that I knew too little of my own things, and then I knew too little, and I hoped that I could get a lot of life experience from them. Then I went to talk to these older people, and when the conversation was over, I would take a picture of them and give it to them. In fact, the core is chat, because I think people's life is 80 years, 90 years, 100 years, and then you can get a lot of life experience with them in the process of chatting. There are no specific statistics, but probably from the first year of high school to the present, in the past ten years, there have been more than 1,000 people photographed. I think everyone is different, everyone's reaction is different, because everyone's experience is different, I feel like I met these old people, their common feature is that they are very sincere, they are very simple, they are very simple, they are very enthusiastic.

Urban Youth Research Institute: Will this series of taking pictures of grandparents continue to be updated in the future?

Xu Kai: Actually, many people have asked me, and he said Xu Kai, how many more years do you plan to continue to do this. I have never wanted to do this thing, when I insist on doing it, that is, I enjoy the process, so I don't have to insist, if I am happy I can continue to do it, if I am not happy, I may not do it, but I am still very happy. But I felt that my previous ability was very small, and my previous financial ability, my previous experience, told me that I could only go and talk to them and then go and take pictures of them. But then, there were a lot of people who gave me a lot of strength, and then I felt like I had more strength and more ability to do more things. Now when I go to the countryside, not only to give them a chat and take pictures, but now for example, when I meet some people I feel pitiful, I feel that I can help, and I will help them within my ability, and I think this is my change. If in the future I have more ability, the greater my strength, I can do more things.

Urban Affairs Youth Research Institute: What makes you want to run the "Virtue and Love Kitchen"?

Xu Kai: Over the years, I have been paying close attention to these things in medical treatment, and at the beginning of January this year, we went to Jiangxi Province, and at the entrance of Jiangxi Provincial Cancer Hospital, there was such a love kitchen, which was run by Lao Wan and his wife in 2003, 19 years. Then when we met him, we talked to them and took a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Wan. After the chat was over, Mr. and Mrs. Wan said two sentences to me, the first sentence, he said that this kitchen can save these patients money, every penny saved by the patients, is the weight used to defeat the disease, this is the first sentence; then the second sentence he told me, he said that there are many people eating here, just want to eat a bite, the family personally cooked for him, because there are many people's lives, soon to end, and then there is no big wish, is to eat a bite, the family personally made them a meal is very satisfied. I think these two words that Lao Wan said to me made me very moved, and on the day I met Lao Wan, I said to him, I said ah, I want to open a shop like this in Xi'an, he said yes, you are all kind people.

After we returned to Xi'an from Jiangxi, we began to look for a house the next day, and then after a new year, we decided on the house after the New Year. It has been renovating for two months, and on May 20th the kitchen was up and running. This kitchen from May 20th to now, these months, the average down per day is about 100 groups of families, before the operation of a total of more than 170,000 investment, and then from May 20th to now, the cost of the kitchen per day is about 650 yuan.

Urban Affairs Youth Research Institute: From the initial accidental explosion, to the current public welfare has become the norm of life, what changes in mentality?

Xu Kai: Actually, my mentality has not changed a lot, because I have been doing this all these years. But later, after working for a long time, and later a lot of people gave me a lot of strength, gave us a lot of help, gave us a lot of support and like and trust, so when we had some money, when we had some ability, we went to do more things. Then I think after doing these things, I feel addicted, for example, now I meet an old man, this old man I feel very pitiful, and then we have some ability, and then go to buy him something, to chat with him, to send him a photo, after the process is over, the old man's reaction to us, is very memorable, and this process will really be very addictive, so in the future we will continue to be addicted.

Urban Affairs Youth Research Institute: Many people have been influenced by you and joined the public welfare undertakings, what do you want to say to them?

Xu Kai: We are like this, that is, we sent the video from April 13 last year, after sending the video, and then there are many people who pay attention, after seeing it, and then follow us together to follow, strangers to take pictures, and then go to a lot of such love kitchens. I think what I want to say to them is that everyone's strength is different, everyone's experience is different, I think everyone in their own life, in their own life, can go all out to do what they want to do, I think it's OKAY.
