Pundits call John McKin a 'great replacement' for Liverpool Henderson.

Tony Cascarino believes Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn will be the "great replacement" for Liverpool star Jordan Henderson.

After impressing Hibernian in Scotland, McGinn moved to Aston Villa in 2018. He helped them advance to the Premier League in the 2018/19 season.

The midfielder has made 124 appearances for Villa and has shined in the top flight over the past few years.

A few months ago, it was reported that Jurgen Klopp was "very interested" in the 27-year-old.

In the summer, it was suggested that he was worth around £50 million.

Of The Times, Cascarino wrote that he wanted Steven Gerrard to keep McKin "as best he could":

"John McGinn was good enough to play for a Champions League club, and at the age of 27 he still had the best years of his career.

"He's a goal threat and it's hard for him to get out of the ball. He's the same size as Wayne Rooney, but don't mistake him for not being in good shape.

"I think he'll fit the way Liverpool play and replace Jordan Henderson well. But Steven Gerrard would know all this, and Villa manager would do everything he could to keep him. ”

In June, Andros Townsend said McGinn would "go straight to Liverpool":

"McGinn's type of player, I think it's perfect for the way Jurgen Klopp likes to play," Townsend said.

"He's fast, he's strong, he can walk around the pitch and he's defensive when needed.

"People would raise their eyebrows because it was John McGinn from Scotland. But if you look at the way he plays and his qualifications, he can go 100% straight into Liverpool.

"He'll adapt directly to the way they want to play.

"Liverpool have two midfielders with possession. Jordan Henderson was one of them, and if he left, John McGinn could be the other.

"His discipline is to sit and let the attacking players do their thing, to have the full-backs stand taller, so I think it's fitting to have someone of that size in front of him in command of the back four.

"But, I would add that Aston Villa is also working on this.

"You see Buendia signing, so they might say, 'Listen, guys, stick to us, we're going to spend some money and really try to get into the top six of the season and European football'."
