"Dong Biwu's Unfulfilled Last Wish Before His Death"

author:Zhou Ying

During the Long March, Dong Biwu once recognized a son named Zeng Kaixuan. In October 1934, during the Long March of the Red Army, Zeng Kaixuan, as a serviceman, was incorporated into the Ranks of the Red Army with the Central Party School of which Dong Biwu was vice president and participated in the Long March.

"Dong Biwu's Unfulfilled Last Wish Before His Death"

During Dong Biwu's Long March, one of his feet festered for a long time and never recovered. When the Red Army crossed the meadow, his festering foot became inflamed again, and it was difficult to ride even on horseback, so he had to drag on crutches on the muddy grass. Zeng Kaixuan had already seen it in his eyes and felt pain in his heart, and said to Dong Biwu many times: "Principal, let me carry you away!" Dong was well aware of the difficulty of marching on the grass, and said with embarrassment: "Can you move your back?" "Yes!" Zeng Kaixuan responded loudly and squatted down to let Dong Biwu come up. Zeng Kaixuan carried Dong Biwu on his back and followed the Red Army team all the way.

After carrying it day after day until the 28th day, I finally carried Dong Biwu out of the grass. But his rotten foot, because it had not been treated, the ulcer became more and more serious, and Dong Biwu was in unbearable pain, and one afternoon he fainted in pain. Everyone was anxious like ants on a hot pot, but there was nothing they could do, and the doctor sighed: "If there is a suction tube to suck away the pus and blood, and then apply anti-inflammatory drugs, it will not be so." But now, there's nothing! ”

When everyone was helpless, Zeng Kaixuan heard that there was a herb called "drilling centipede" nearby, and he rushed to pluck a few plants and told everyone that this grass can reduce inflammation and pain, and cure sores and poison. However, Dong Biwu's feet were already festering and suppurative, and if the pus was not drained clean, the herbs could not be applied.

Zeng Kaixuan thought about it, hugged dong Biwu's rotten foot in his chest, leaned down to suck out the pus blood of the rotten foot with his mouth. Take one bite at a time, suck the pus and blood clean, and then apply the "drill centipede".

When Dong Biwu woke up, he found that the doctors and nurses were tearful one by one, and they didn't know why. After listening to everyone's stories, he was very moved, pulled Zeng into his arms, and said painfully: "Triumph, you should not be so reckless, you will be poisoned." You carried me for dozens of days, suffered a lot, and now you treat me like this, how can I thank you! He said, "Headmaster, this is what I should do... My father died early, and seeing you is like seeing your father. Dong shook Zeng's hand and said, "Kaixuan, you are my son!" Zeng immediately knelt down on both knees to prostrate his head, and Dong hurriedly lifted up: "Get up! Get up! From now on, our father and son will work together for the cause of the revolution! In this way, Dong Biwu recognized Zeng Kaixuan as a dry son.

Shortly after crossing the meadow, Zeng Kaixuan suddenly fell ill, and his condition became more and more serious day by day, and the doctors thought that there was no possibility of a cure, and his death was only a matter of time. Dong Biwu initially found someone to carry him on a stretcher, but later he was really desperate, and with tears in his eyes entrusted him to a poor peasant family passing by on the way of the Long March, helplessly leaving 80 pieces of silver ocean and entrusting the kind man to help Zeng take care of the aftermath.

After the troops left, Zeng Kaixuan miraculously gradually recovered. After recovering from his illness, he went to pursue the troops, unfortunately caught by the Kuomintang troops, and under severe torture, Zeng Triumphant clenched his teeth and did not reveal his identity, nor did he divulge any secrets of the Party and the Red Army. The Kuomintang troops had no choice but to escort him back to Guantian Township, Ji'an County, Jiangxi. Since then, Zeng Kaixuan has repeatedly tried to contact the party organization, but there is no clue. Over time, it is even more impossible to contact. In this way, he completely lost contact with the party organization and became an ordinary peasant again.

After the founding of New China, Zeng Kaixuan saw the news of Dong Biwu in the newspaper and immediately wrote a long letter to send to Dong Biwu.

Dong Biwu was overjoyed and immediately wrote a reply in his own handwriting, asking him to come to Beijing to tell the story of "father and son."

The news that Zeng Kaixuan had served in the Red Army also spread in Ji'an at this time. However, in the political situation at that time, his history as a Red Army did not bring him any benefits, but became a so-called "historical problem".

This made Zeng Kaixuan have doubts: if he went to see Dong Biwu, would it cause him trouble? Is his current identity suitable for going? He fell ill again while he was hesitating, and never made the trip. In the sinister environment of the subsequent "movements" and the "Cultural Revolution," Zeng Kaixuan was even more cautious, for fear of causing any trouble to Dong Biwu.

Although he had never met, Dong Biwu had always thought of him. In those years of national economic difficulties, every year on the eve of the Spring Festival, he had to send him five or six hundred yuan for the New Year. Usually, as long as he mentions in the letter that the illness is not yet cured, he will take two or three hundred yuan from his salary and send it to him for treatment. In 1962, Dong Biwu went to Jinggangshan and passed through Ji'an, called Zeng Kaixuan's hometown Guantian Commune and asked him to meet in Ji'an City, zeng Kaixuan also said: He was seriously ill and bedridden and could not see each other. Dong Biwu refused to die: If you don't come, I will simply go. After going down the mountain, I drove to visit, who expected that it would not be able to open to traffic for dozens of miles from Guantian. He wanted to walk there on foot, but the entourage hurriedly dissuaded him, how could he walk on a mountain road of dozens of miles at the age of 76? If Dong Biwu had asked the local government for a jeep at that time, he might have been able to go, but Dong had been extremely strict with himself all his life, so how could he trouble the local government for his own private affairs? He had to leave.

In the spring of 1975, Dong Biwu fell ill and missed his relatives even more. Zhou En's visit to him, Dong Biwu gasped and said, "This time I may have to leave you!" But there was one guy I wanted to see before he was alive. Zhou Enlai asked, "Who?" Dong said: "Zeng, Kai, Xuan! Speaking of Zeng Kaixuan, Zhou Enlai naturally knew about his "father-son" relationship with Dong Biwu during the Long March, so he comforted him: "We must find a way to notify Zeng Kaixuan to come to Beijing as soon as possible." Zhou Enlai immediately sent an urgent telegram to Zeng in his own name. On March 27, Zeng Kaixuan was seriously ill in bed. The secretary of the party committee of the Guantian Commune hurried to his home in Yangpitou and said: "Chairman Dong Biwu is critically ill, and Premier Zhou invited you to Beijing to see him. Zeng triumphantly listened, struggled to sit up, put on a piece of clothing, and staggered to Go to Beijing, but as soon as he took a step, he fell to the ground and fainted. When his family carried him to the hospital bed, he murmured: "Daddy, you have worried a lot about the child, I did not repay your kindness..." On the afternoon of April 1, Dong Biwu felt that he was about to die, so he left a will: "After I die, I must send a telegram to Zeng Kaixuan, he is my son!" "The next day, he passed away. On the morning of April 4, Zeng Kaixuan received a telephone obituary from the General Office of the State Council, and he cried bitterly: "Daddy..." and fainted. Soon after, he also passed away.
