Dong Biwu, born in 1886 in Hong'an County, Hubei Province, is one of the founders of the Communist Party of China. Throughout his life, he was a man of erudition, discernment, and a staunch Marxist-Leninist, but also an outstanding poet and calligrapher. He has a profound foundation in traditional Chinese studies, rich in poetry, especially fond of old style poetry, and has a deep foundation in calligraphy. His poems and handwritten works complement each other perfectly, which is a perfect combination of poetry and calligraphy, and has a high appreciation value.

In February 1956, Dong Biwu revisited the site of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China on Xingye Road in Shanghai, helped the staff recall relevant historical details, and wrote two inscriptions for the memorial, one of which was "Beginning and Beginning, General Bi Yeju". This sentence is derived from "Zhuangzi", the original text of "its beginning is also simple, and its will be great." "People extend it to the implication that any undertaking with a great future, even if it is insignificant at the time of its inception, is bound to develop very large when it is about to be completed.
