Dong Biwu was one of the founders of the Communist Party of China and one of the founding fathers of the People's Republic of China. In 1921, Dong Biwu attended the First National Congress of the Communist Party of China as a representative of the early organization of the Communist Party of Wuhan. Today, 100 years later, Dong Biwu's 100 poems and handwritings are exhibited at the Meiyuan Xincun Memorial Hall, providing vivid teaching materials for the study and education of the "Four Histories".
Entering the exhibition hall, above the more than ten cultural relics in the collection hangs the "Four Absolute Sentences of the Meiyuan New Village Inscription" written by Dong Biwu for the Meiyuan Xincun Memorial Hall in 1960, which is the first public exhibition. "This poem by Dong Laoti is about struggle in unity, and struggle is for peace." Lin Jianying, deputy director of the Comprehensive Business Department of Meiyuan New Village, said that the last sentence of the poem, "After leaving Ningbo in two and a half years, the red flag under the white flag shines brightly" echoes what Dong Biwu said on March 7, 1947, when he led the CPC delegation to evacuate Nanjing and bid farewell to the people of Nanjing, "The period of goodbye is not far away." More than two years later, the Battle of the River Crossing was launched, the People's Liberation Army liberated Nanjing, and his bold words were also confirmed and realized.
Dong Biwu has a profound foundation in traditional Chinese studies, and his poems and handwriting complement each other and have a high appreciation value. The reporter learned that the works on display were collected and copied by Dong Shaoxin, the grandson of Dong Biwu, and Huang Qiongzhen, the granddaughter-in-law, who traveled to museums, memorials, archives and other places across the country, because most of the originals have been designated as state-level cultural relics, and it is not easy to display them in a centralized manner. "In addition to showing the cultural and artistic beauty of calligraphy and poetry, I also hope that the audience can enter the inner world of Elder Dong and understand the wind and bones of proletarian revolutionaries like bamboo." Revolutionary cultural relics have witnessed the turbulent years of war, carrying rock-solid faith and belief, and are also "living teaching materials" for the study and education of party history. In order to cooperate with this exhibition, the Meiyuan Xincun Memorial Hall specially exhibits more than ten pieces of Dong Biwu cultural relics in the collection, most of which are treasures that have not yet been publicly exhibited. "A black briefcase on display was used by Dong Biwu when he attended the United Nations General Assembly in 1945, and he still used it during the negotiations in Nanjing." Dong Biwu's calligraphy works are not only an important record of his revolutionary career of more than 60 years, but also truly reflect the magnificent historical process of the Chinese nation's liberation struggle and socialist construction for more than half a century.
