Jinyang Network Review: Carry forward the spirit of Zhang Side and practice the purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly

"Jiangshan is the people, the people are Jiangshan, fighting the Jiangshan and guarding the Jiangshan is the people's heart." The foundation of the Communist Party of China lies in the people, the blood is in the people, and the strength is in the people. This is reminiscent of the glorious book "Serving the People."

Zhang Side, born in Yilong, Sichuan Province, to a poor peasant family, joined the Red Army in 1933, joined the Communist Party of China in 1937, experienced the arduous Long March, climbed snowy mountains and meadows several times, made many military achievements, and was injured many times. He worked diligently, regardless of personal fame and fortune. In 1942, due to the reorganization of the troops, he was changed from squad leader to the Central Guard Corps as a soldier, performing guard duties in Places where Mao Zedong worked in Yan'an Zaoyuan and other places where the central leadership worked. In the summer of 1944, in response to the call of the Party Central Committee to launch a large-scale production campaign, Zhang Side took the initiative to sign up for the task of burning charcoal in Ansai, more than 20 miles away from Yan'an, and was not afraid of suffering, tiredness, and dirtiness in his work, giving full play to the vanguard and exemplary role of Communist Party members. On September 5, the charcoal kiln suddenly collapsed in the rain, and at a critical moment, Zhang Side struggled to push his comrades out of the kiln, but he was buried in the collapsed mound, and he was only 29 years old when he died.

77 years ago, Zhang Side became an immortal monument in people's hearts, and the spirit of serving the people wholeheartedly became the value and outlook on life of Chinese communists. "Serving the People" vividly explains the communists' outlook on life and values. That is, "to die for the benefit of the people is heavier than Tarzan." It clearly pointed out the value orientation that communists should adhere to, and at the same time, it also pointed out the direction for communists to practice the fundamental purpose of serving the people in practical activities. Everything is for the people, everything depends on the people, and all behaviors should revolve around serving the interests of the people, so that the values and outlook on life of serving the people will become the conscious understanding and action direction of every member of the party.

"Serving the people wholeheartedly is the fundamental purpose of the party. During the Yan'an period, Comrade Mao Zedong's speech "Serving the People" delivered while mourning Comrade Zhang Side profoundly revealed the true meaning of the relationship between the party and the masses, between cadres and the masses, and between the military and the people. "Keeping in mind the fundamental purpose of serving the people wholeheartedly, adhering to the original intention with firm ideals and convictions, keeping in mind that the people's yearning for a better life is our goal of struggle, never forgetting that our party comes from the people and is rooted in the people, and can never be separated from the masses, despise the masses, and ignore the sufferings of the masses."
