The work is outside the pot

Lü Junjie's father, Lü Yaochen, was a famous purple sand pottery master. As soon as he was a child, after school, Lu Junjie liked to go to the purple sand factory to see his father make pots. Because she was well aware of the hardships of the older generation of Purple Sand people, her mother did not agree at first that his son should be in his father's business. Finally, at the family meeting, 16-year-old Lu Junjie chose to stick to his interests and was subsequently admitted to the purple sand factory.

The three-year apprenticeship was fleeting, and as a result, all the boys in the class changed their careers, leaving only Lu Junjie, who often took the first place, to stay in front of the mud bench. For Lü Junjie, his father has high expectations; for surpassing his father, Lu Junjie is also more energetic.

"Ten years ago, when I went out, people always introduced me as 'Master Lu Yaochen's son'. He's an amazing artist, but I have my ideas too... It was as if I had been under a big tree, and I was very uncomfortable. Then I thought, one day who has to mention me to mention him, I have this confidence in myself. ”

This confidence stems from the four words "the work is outside the pot". Under the guidance of his father, in order to strengthen the theoretical study, Lu Junjie first went to the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts to learn modeling, and then to the Nanyang Academy of Arts in Singapore to learn sculpture; not only drew nutrients from the creation of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, but even integrated the rigidity and softness and shape of martial arts into the pot.

Purple sand art has a long history, pearls and jade are in front, and innovation is not easy. Lü Yaochen created the original "Lü's Grinding Mud" and pioneered a new technique of purple sand decoration. In Lü Junjie's generation, father and son believe that in the process of practice and theoretical learning, it is necessary to continuously absorb other types of art and blend them into the works in order to make them plump and three-dimensional, and to infect and impress the viewer - only such works can be considered successful.

"The purple sand pot must also have a composition, but also a chapter. It is more difficult to be simple and not simple. Be right, but not the old. ”

There is also a way

The pot of the famous teacher is just like the pen and ink Danqing, carrying things to send affection.

"Purple sand cannot be a simple pot, it must rise from an instrument to the Tao." Lu Junjie said.

The purple sand pot is a well-known vessel in China, and it is also one of the few traditional Chinese arts that can be played with every day. It is both grounded and inseparable from traditional tea art.

"Generally speaking, the art that remains behind must be closely related to people's lives, and this intangible cultural heritage will last a long time."

Lu Junjie believes that the purple sand pot has been passed down to this day, and it also reflects the temperament of Chinese: moist but not aggressive, soft but hard bone. Originated from the soil, it seems to be plain and simple, but in fact, it is not simple.

The ideation stage of each work is often the most laborious – this stage can even be as long as several months. Wait until his mind is basically formed, he will start to make it.

The high degree of unity of artistry and technology of purple sand also determines the precision requirements of craftsmanship. For example, in the calculation of the shrinkage of the mud, the difference of a millimeter may lead to the failure of the whole pot firing. Therefore, each work is like his own child, and Lu Junjie can casually tell the story behind it.

Art and time together

In the eyes of Lu Junjie, "artists should use their works to reflect the beauty of the times, to be sunny and positive." In his original more than 100 pieces of purple sand, almost every piece has a story full of the imprint of the times.

"Fishing Song" is one of The Representative Works of Lü Junjie's early creations. At that time, every fishing season in Taihu Lake, a hundred boats set sail and cast nets, like a magnificent landscape painting. Lu Junjie made a set of pots inspired by this beautiful scenery and won the first prize of the 7th National Ceramics Competition.

"Each stage has its own satisfactory original works, because each piece is like its own child, leaving the unique imprint and charm of that stage, which can no longer be reproduced."

No matter when, Lu Junjie always maintained the habit of practicing martial arts. Due to his young age and illness, he began to practice martial arts at an early age and won the gold medal in the shape and meaning of the Hong Kong International Wushu Competition. The shape, speed, rigidity and softness of martial arts are similar to those of purple sand pots.

The picture shows that in 2008, Lu Junjie participated in the "Olympic Cup" Hong Kong International Wushu Festival and won the gold medal.

"At the beginning, practicing martial arts was purely for the sake of strengthening the body, but after practicing, I slowly practiced to the realm of 'enlightenment'. Eventually, it will be expressed in my work. ”

Strive to promote the national gem

At the 2017 "Cheers for the Olympics" Lv Junjie Purple Sand Tasting Meeting, IOC President Bach hugged Lü Junjie many times after seeing his works, praised his works for reflecting the harmony between man and nature, and invited him to the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

During the conversation, Bach learned about Lu Junjie's martial arts career and that he had designed a number of sports-related works since the 2008 Beijing Olympics. As a result, the International Olympic Committee awarded Lu Junjie an Olympic Coubertin Gold Medal, and he became the first purple sand artist to receive the award.

"As a Chinese artist, this cross-border 'Olympic gold medal' makes me feel very proud, of course, very confident, as a cultural power, China deserves this honor." When the five-star red flag was raised, it was really a bit tear-inducing, very proud and excited. ”

In order to promote the purple sand culture, Lu Junjie also served as a pot art consultant for the cultural and historical drama "Purple Jade Golden Sand", and played the role of Jingkong Master in the play. In 2009, he also starred in the MV of the TV documentary "Purple Mud Spring".

"All these seemingly 'unprofessional' things, I actually revolve around one core: to help the development and promotion of the entire purple sand industry."

The Beijing Winter Olympics are just around the corner, and Lu Junjie already has a lot of ideas in his mind. Previously, he has designed works such as "Champion Hydrangle" and "Curling", this time he hopes to organically integrate the beautiful body language of athletes such as skiing and speed skating into his works, design more ice and snow sports theme pots, and make more contributions to the Winter Olympics and the spread of Chinese culture.
