The opera "Honghu Red Guards" is performed by Hubei Opera and Dance Theater, which is one of the 100 cultural activities to benefit the people in Hainan Province.

The drama tells the story of the Honghu area of Hubei Province in 1930, when the Red Second Army led by He Long was temporarily withdrawn in a tug-of-war with the enemy, and the honghu Red Guards, under the leadership of Han Ying and Liu Chuang, skillfully maneuvered with the Kuomintang security regiment and the local lake bully Peng Batian, dealing a heavy blow to the invading enemy.
Premiered in 1958 and released for more than 60 years, Honghu Red Guards has inspired countless people with its artistic charm, creativity, vitality and appeal. In 1993, the opera "Honghu Red Guards" was named "20th Century Chinese Music Classic" and was called one of the "20th Century Chinese Classic Operas" by the audience.
In 1999, the Hubei Provincial Opera and Dance Theater rehearsed the performance of "Honghu Red Guards", with a condensed plot, streamlined lines, exquisite choreography, especially the familiar "Honghu Water, Waves and Waves" was adapted into a magnificent and brilliant chorus. In 2011, at the first China Opera Festival, he won the first place in the Outstanding Performance Award. In 2019, the opera "Honghu Red Guards" held a national tour for the 60th anniversary of its premiere.
