In honor of the great people's educator Tao Xingzhi, hence the name. Tao Xingzhi (18 October 1891 – 25 July 1946) was a native of Anhui, an educator and thinker of the Chinese, a great democratic fighter and patriot, and one of the main leaders of the Chinese People's Salvation Congress and the China Democratic League.

Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall is located in Gusheng Village, Caojie Street, Hechuan District, covering an area of 31,400 square meters, and now contains five main parts of the former site of Yucai College, Gusheng Temple, Yi Shaozhai, Zhou Zichi, Stele Pavilion and New Exhibition Hall, about 20 kilometers away from Hechuan City and 40 kilometers away from Chongqing, and is a patriotic education base and integrity education demonstration base named after Hechuan District of Chongqing. From 1939 to 1946, Mr. Tao Xingzhi ran a school here. In May 2006, the former site of Yucai School was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units. In 2010, the management agency "Tao Xingzhi Memorial Hall" was officially established, and the Hechuan District Cultural Relics Management Office was listed.

The ancient holy temple on the site of Yucai School was built in the Ming Longqing period, and the existing building was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty, which is the most complete preserved temple building in Chongqing, with a typical Qing Dynasty temple architectural style. At present, the furnishings in the ancient holy temple have basically restored the scene when Tao Xingzhi was running the school, and display cabinets and display boards have been arranged in the corresponding classrooms and rooms.

Yi Shaozhai was the residence of Mr. Tao Xingzhi at that time, and it was also a place to meet and receive distinguished guests, and Zhou Enlai and Feng Yuxiang once stayed here. Zhou Zi Chi was originally the release pond of the ancient holy temple, and Mr. Tao Xingzhi changed its name to "Zhou Zi Chi" after running the school, which was intended to commemorate Mr. Zhou Dunyi, a famous theologian of the Northern Song Dynasty. The monument pavilion, also known as the Memorial Pavilion, was donated by old alumni of Yucai, and is inscribed with inscriptions of leaders and celebrities, profiles of Yucai revolutionary martyrs, famous words of Mr. Tao Xingzhi and the concept of running the school.

Construction of the new exhibition hall began in October 2001, was completed in March 2006, and was officially opened to the public free of charge in May 2009. With a total area of more than 7,860 square kilometers and a total construction area of 2,300 square meters, it is a new antique courtyard-style building, consisting of 6 exhibition halls and 1 comprehensive office area. The museum has a total of more than 1,000 pieces in the collection.
