Cao Cao did not listen, and as Xun You said, the army was defeated. Cao Cao said to Xun You regretfully, "I didn't use your strategy to be unfavorable. Xun You then offered Cao Cao a strange strategy, causing him to defeat Zhang Xiu and Liu Biao, and then Ban Shi returned to the dynasty. Xun You said to Cao Cao: "Zhang Xiu and Liu Biao are newly defeated, and they will certainly not act rashly. Lü Buxiao was brave and good at war, and with Yuan Shu as his backing, if he crossed the Jianghuai River, it would be difficult to get rid of him. Now that Liu Bei betrayed Lü Bu, it was a great opportunity for us to destroy him in one fell swoop. Cao Cao obeyed, so he marched into Xuzhou, repeatedly defeating Lü Bu and besieging Xia Pi.
Cao Cao jiu attacked Pi Buke, saw that the soldiers were tired, and wanted to withdraw. Xun You and Guo Jia then advised: "Lü Bu has courage and strategy, and he has repeatedly lost battles and demoralized, which is a good time to eliminate him." Although Chen Gong had a plan, he reacted slowly, and as long as we continued to attack, we would definitely take down Xia Pi. Cao Cao then drew water to attack the city, broke the city in one fell swoop, and killed Lü Bu.
Fifth, Guandu made meritorious contributions

In the fifth year of Jian'an (200), Yuan Shao sent Yan Liang south to attack Baima, and Cao Cao led his army north to rescue him. Xun You, believing that Yuan Shao had many powerful people, persuaded Cao Cao to attack the west from the east, pretending to cross the river from Yanjin to harass Yuan Shao's rear to attract the main force of Yuan's army, and then unexpectedly marched into Baima. Cao Cao obeyed, and sure enough, he won and killed Yan Liang.
Cao Cao then personally escorted the grain and grass to retreat, only to be pursued by Yuan Shao's army. The generals felt frightened and advised Cao Cao to flee quickly. However, Xun You thought that this was a good time to defeat the enemy, so he persuaded Cao Cao to fight. Cao Cao then pretended to abandon Yuan Zhong, lured the Yuan army to scramble, and then launched a counterattack, defeating the Yuan army and killing Wen Ugly.
Battle of Guandu
Cao Cao confronted Yuan Shao at Guandu, but there was not enough grain and grass. Xun You then advised, "Yuan Shao's grain trucks are about to arrive, but Han Meng, who is carrying grain, is proud of the enemy, and as long as Xiang Xiang sends Xu Huang to attack, he will definitely be able to defeat him." Soon Yuan Shao's adviser Xu You came to surrender and persuaded Cao Cao to attack Wuchao. Fearing deception, the crowd advised Cao Cao not to believe it. Only Xun You and Jia Xu did not doubt it and urged Cao Cao to obey. Cao Cao therefore personally attacked Wuchao, leaving Cao Hong and Xun You to guard the camp. Yuan Shao heard that Wuchao had been lost, so he sent Zhang Gao and Gao Lan to attack the Cao army camp, and the two surrendered because of the defeat. Cao Hong was afraid that Zhang Hao and Gao Lan would surrender fraudulently and did not dare to accept it, so Xun You tried to ensure that the two were sincerely obedient, and Cao Hong accepted the surrender.

Cao Cao asked everyone for their opinions, and most people opposed it because they thought That Liu Biaoqiang was weak.
Xun You advised: "Although Liu Biao has Jingzhou, he does not have great ambitions, so the threat is not great. Yuan Shaojiu held the land of Qingyouji and the four states, which was very popular with the people. If Yuan Tan and Yuan Shang's brothers lived in harmony and preserved Yuan Shao's inheritance, it would be difficult for Hebei to be pacified. Now that the two Yuans are in contention, if Yuan Shang annexes Yuan Tan and unifies Hebei, it will be difficult to plot. Now that they are in the same room, it is a good time to seize Hebei in one fell swoop. Cao Cao obeyed, so he befriended Yuan Tan and defeated Yuan Shang.
Warlords
In the tenth year of Jian'an (205), Cao Cao broke with Yuan Tan and sent troops to eliminate the Yuan family's forces and pacify Hebei in one fell swoop. Because of Xun You's advice and advice, Cao Cao rewarded him greatly for his many achievements, praised him for his lack of scruples, and let his son Cao Pi honor him as a teacher. In the nineteenth year of Jian'an (214), Xun You accompanied Cao Cao on his southern expedition to Sun Quan, but died of illness in the middle of the way.
In general, Xun You was cao Cao's chief strategist, who contributed to the unification of the north, so he was deeply trusted and relied on by Cao Cao. Because most people know the history of the Three Kingdoms from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Guo Jia in the book is resourceful and has a wonderful story, Xun You has no brilliant story, so it is not famous among Cao Cao's five major strategists.
